Debby Ryan Interview - JJJ Exclusive!

JustJaredJr.com got the chance to hang out with Debby Ryan last week and instantly became friends — we have shared a fondue dinner together!

The 15-year-old actress told us about what’s coming next for The Suite Life, her love for Kyle XY and pal Ashley Tisdale. Check it out:

DR: I love JustJaredJr! I’m not even joking, it’s on my Internet browser, like, right now! I love it.

JJJ: Do you read blogs in general? Which ones do you stay away from?

DR: Selena [Gomez]…we were talking on set one time, and she just instantly got me addicted to the gossip sites. And you know, some of them can be very, very mean, and I avoid those. But that’s why I love JustJared, because no matter how controversial someone is, you guys always see the good in them, and I love it.

JJJ: Do you have any online presences? Official website, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter?

DR: MySpace.com/DebbyRyan is my official MySpace, and I have DebbyRyan.com, and I have a Youtube, which is TheDebbyRyanOfficial…and I’m getting a Twitter today! I’m really excited! Because I heard that PopStar magazine just got one, and so I was like, why not? I’ll let you know what it is…I have no idea how to do it…but I will. (JJJ Note: Debby let us know her real Twitter page!)

I’ve been on Facebook, but I don’t have one. There’s a very good poser of me out there, going under, like, a different last name…it’s really creepy, because even some of my best friends fall for it. And they’ve been really mean, too. They collect kids’ information, which is sketchy stuff. Please tell people I don’t have one!

JJJ: What was going on in the last episode you filmed for Suite Life?

DR: We had a magician aboard the ship and a few different things ensued with London and Mr. Moseby. My storyline… I honestly can’t remember because it’s honestly been about 12 months, mentally. But really it’s been maybe a week. I’ll get back to you on that.

JJJ: Is there a favorite prop that you have on set?

DR: Well, when Bailey is in her and London’s room, she has this rooster clock, and when we’re filming, I’ll touch him and he’ll crow! It’s the cutest thing in the world! So I love the rooster clock, but it’s only been on one episode.

My favorite place to hang out on set is the Juice Bar, it’s so cool! And there’s the spiral staircase on the show with chairs under it. We all sit there and talk, I love it! I like showing people around, too. There’s different alcoves and secret passage ways!

JJJ: Give us some insider information about upcoming episodes.

DR: Bailey and Cody are getting to know each other a little bit better, and they’re getting to see each other differently. They’re dealing with issues like jealousy. I heard Gavin MacLeod was on an episode – I wasn’t in it, but…you know. That’s really cool, though.

Here’s another one: There’s going to be a food fight on an upcoming episode but it’s not going to be spaghetti or anything major like that because we had to shoot it over and over. That was really fun because we had…fencing. (laughs) Bread rolls get thrown around…and a miscellaneous vegetable. Even bread rolls! I had one of those pan lids, and every time I saw one coming my way, I’d forget my lines. I was dodging them! I did not want a bread-roll-induced concussion! Those things are hard, too.

JJJ: Beyond Suite Life, do you have any other projects in the works?

DR: Yeah! I have an animated pilot that we’re working on – an animated voice pilot for Disney Channel UK, and then I’m also writing a screenplay, which I’ve kind of been working on for a while. I honestly don’t know if it’ll ever see the light of day but it’s one of those things where I have to just write it. It’s in me, and I’ve just got to shine it! And I’m working on my music! We’ve also been looking at films, I’ve been looking for a really good one. I have some that sound promising, but they’re still in the beginning [phases].

JJJ: This animated UK series, tell us what it’s about and about your character.

DR: Her name is Tina, as of now, but that might change. She’s really snarky – but she’s a really nice person! She’s a really good friend to the main character, but if something happens, she’s got an attitude! She’ll say, “I don’t care, you can make it yourself!” (head roll) She’s got her attitude and opinions and has a way with sarcasm. She’s just like, “Grrreeat, that’s completely normal.” I love her, she’s not afraid to tell it like it is.

As for the series, I don’t think I’m allowed to talk too much about it, but as of now it’s called My Mate Flynn. Mate – because it’s British. I guess they could call it “My Friend Flynn,” but that’s probably too American.

JJJ: What kind of instruments do you play?

DR: I’m learning acoustic guitar and piano! I’m learning how to play the keyboard.

JJJ: What kind of music would you want to create?

DR: I love jazz! I love singing it. I also love country! My brother loves rock, he also has this chill Jason Mraz-like style. So basically, my answer is: jazz-country-rock-alternative? I have no idea! But I honestly would love to make country music.

JJJ: Do you have a favorite TV show?

DR: Kyle XY! I’m so sad – every time I see the words “The Final Episodes” on Kyle XY, I die a little inside. That’s the only show that I regularly watch. And I just met this friend who watches it too, and we’re always texting, “Ohmygosh, did you see what Kyle just did?!”

JJJ: What’s your favorite Disney movie?

DR: I love Mulan. I love the song “Hakuna Matata”, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Lion King from beginning to end. Scar is such a creeper! But I love “Hakuna Matata” – I even have a toothbrush that sings it to me. My best friend gave it to me! I told you, I’m like a six-year-old boy! It’s a little weird. I just saw Wall-E, too. And Bolt, I’ve seen so many times, it’s ridiculous. I saw it in 3D. I took my friends, I went to the premiere, I took my grandma and we had fun. We cried and I’m proud of it!

JJJ: Do you have a favorite candy?

DR: Milky Way because I love the stuff that’s inside Three Musketeers, that fluffy nougat stuff, and caramel. Milky Way just — forgive the Disney expression — is the best of both worlds!

JJJ: Favorite place to shop?

DR: I’m really like the Gap right now, and I’ve also seen some Betsey Johnson stuff that I like.

JJJ: Favorite celeb that you look to for fashion?

DR: I look up to people that I know because I’m not into that whole scene. Ashley Tisdale always looks good – she can be in sweats and Uggs, and she’ll look good. She puts her Ray-Bans with everything, and she can wear a long sweater! A flowy shirt! She doesn’t always have to wear skin tight stuff, and I like that. And Miley always looks fierce. Always! No matter what she’s wearing.
