OlderMiley Cyrus is a VH1 Diva
Miley Cyrus is teaming up with the first American Idol Kelly Clarkson for the live concert event, VH1 Divas.
The duo, along with Leona Lewis and Adele, will be televised on VH1 on Thursday, Saturday, 17 @ 9PM ET/PT.
Producer Lee Rolontz shared about bringing the concert back after four years, saying, “Adele, Kelly, Leona and Miley have all captured the world’s attention with their talent and have earned their designation as VH1 Divas this year. Don’t let some of their young ages fool you – these women are among the best entertainers in the world and will continue to thrill music fans for a long time to come.”

This is live on the 17th, but I thought her tour starts on the 14th on the west coast? No, I haven’t browsed any of the dates beyond recalling the date and place of her opening concert. Of course it’s possible I am confusing the location of VH1 being in New York like MTV?
As for the event itself, it will pale in comparison to former Diva events with REAL divas performing. These girls are all too young to be presented in that category, though I am not suggesting they lack talent. Talent is not the issue here, the issue is accomplishment, and none of these girls have accomplished anything to rate with the likes of Aretha Franklin etc. And no, 4 #1 albums by Miley Cyrus (or Hannah, take your pick) is NOT an accomplishment when the vast majority of people who buy her records are kids aged 6 to 14. When people in their 30′s, 40′s and 50′s start jamming to Miley, then I will re-consider my opinion.

I am a really big fan of Leona Lewis, and I’m so glad that she’s had such success all around the world. I also think that Miley, Kelly, and Estelle also really deserve to be there, all four of them are stars.

Hey Billy, I remember that Divas’ show with Areatha Franklin. Celine Dion and Shania Twain was also on that show. The format of Divas is to pair the old with the new. Have you heard ‘He Could Be the One?’ Miley sounds so much like Shania. I could really see Miley and Shania doing a duet together. None of the stars listed in this article are icons YET, but are very popular entertainers.
And, those 20/30/40 something adults made Miley’s song The Climb a #1 hit on Adult Contemporary Radio. Miley belongs on the Divas show. I believe that, the show’s producers believe that, and so do millions of her fans.
