OlderVanessa Hudgens: Beastly Is Magical
Vanessa Hudgens recently sat down with the Montreal Gazette to chat about her upcoming role in the fantasy romance, Beastly.
The 20-year-old actress dished to the paper on why the role spoke to her, why she wouldn’t have taken the part and living every girl’s dream. Check it:
On the appeal of Beastly: “I just thought it was magical. Every girl wants to be a princess and Beauty and the Beast is a classic tale of a princess and a prince. Just the fact that it was going to be told in a way that was modern and edgy and sexy, that was very appealing. It wasn’t something that was too far away from my target audience, but it is, in a way, a step to building new fans. It does reach out to an older group. But I’m trying to take it slow and not do anything too drastic.”
On why she chose to take the role of Lindy Taylor: “With High School Musical, I adore my character and it’s so much fun. But (Beastly) is so much older and so much edgier, and it deals with tough situations, like my dad being a drug addict, and we really get to see people fall in love hard. The stakes are very high. It’s just sexy.”
On not taking the part if boyfriend Zac Efron had been the Beast: “Just because I feel we’re growing up and we want to be able to differentiate ourselves as actors. Not that I don’t want to do something with him eventually. But it’s just – we did our thing [High School Musical movies] together and we’re just going to let that be for the moment.”

I cant wait to see her in something different… Not even this so much, but sucker punch is completely different, isnt it?
I wont see Bandslam, because well, lets face it, there are tons of movies out there just like that one..
But shes pretty and could be talented, but I cant decide until I see her act in something that is more edgy. Cause I feel like her HSM role was just fitting for who she is. And how hard is it to really act like yourself? Right..
But I think she can be successful, but she needs to smarten up. I refuse to believe those new pics were from the same set as the old ones, lets face it, the way she wears her hair now, is the exact same in the pics. and if we all recall, the first set were just awful hair. But I think now that Dane Cook embarrassed her, she will smarten up, and focus on her acting to prove herself.
Cant wait, she will do great.
And less singing would be awesome, cause her voice isnt awesome, her acting is better.

i can’t wait, she looks beautiful, i think so many people underestimate her talent. I think she will have the longest career in Hollywood.

This is something that sets Zac and Vanessa and their relationship apart from others in the business. Too bad that a lot of Zac’s fans don’t see things that way.

Im so going to go watch this movie. Its amazing how she’s growing up into bigger roles. She’s a very talented actress and has an amazing future as one.
@listen to mayday parade: she’s already doing what you’re saying in your comment. she’s focusing on her acting already and just give Bandslam a chance. it has gotten great reviews. the character she plays(Sa5m) is totally different from Gabriella in HSM.
and about the pics, they really are old. she had brown hair before too. she REALLY hasn’t done it again.

No, you are wrong about how there are a ton of movies just like Bandslam. That’s just it, this is quite original and that is why the critic love it. It is fresh as Rotten Tomatoes have declared it to be. The thing I love about it the most that it was not predictable or like the formula movies they put out there for teens. There are characters who are interesting and brought to life by some young actors who are worth watching. Don’t like Vanessa? Don’t worry for there are so many great young people who actually performed and played their own instrument in the movie whether they did before filming this movie or not. SO, don’t make that snide kind of remark.
Plus, on the picture issue: IF you looked at them which it seems like you did it is OBVIOUS even to an untrained eye that she is very young in those pictures and are NOT CURRENT. So, don’t start.
I can’t wait for Beastly, it sounds great!
I’d love to see Zanessa in a movie again, but more into the future, their chemistry would make an excellent movie!
I also like that she and Zac are trying to distance themselves from each other career-wise for right now. I think it will be great for them to work together again in the future since they have so much chemistry but now would be way too soon. Too many people would get too used to seeing them do movies together or criticize them for doing just that. They are both very smart to do separate movies right now and be very selective when they do finally act together in one.
This movie looks interesting, and I will go see it when it comes out.
She is right, her and Zac need to distance their careers from each other a little. They have good chemistry, true, they work together well, true, and they don’t hate each other, and all that, but they don’t want to be known as the real-life couple who is always playing the couple, you know? They need to make their own mark individially, then they can make another fun movie together.
CBS films better distribute this right, unlike SUMMIT who failed big time..
@jo: YES i totally agree with you. CBS better not screw up the marketing of Beastly. it’s too appealing too screw up.
