Shirley Jones makes amends with new granddaughter Alexa Vega in this new still from Ruby & The Rockits.
In the upcoming episode “50 Ways to Heave Your Mother,” Patrick and David’s (Cassidy) mother, Shirley, pays a visit to her sons from Pittsburgh and she and Ruby (Vega) get off to a rocky start — Shirley insists that Ruby call her Mrs. Gallagher instead of Grandma! Ruby tries wholeheartedly to win her Grandma’s affections; nonetheless Shirley proceeds to make her feel as if she doesn’t belong in the family.
Fun fact: Shirley Jones also played David‘s mom in another show — The Partridge Family in the 1970s!
“50 Ways to Heave Your Mother” premieres on Tuesday, September 15 @ 8:30PM ET/PT on ABC Family.

Shirley Jones is David Cassidy step mother in real ife – Shirley was married to Davids father Jack for almost all of Davids life – his own parents divorced when he was very very little
Patrick is also David’s half-brother. Also, Shirley and Jack Cassidy—David’s father—were divorced long before Jack died in a fire. Jack Cassidy was a known womanizer and it has been said David was always embarrased how his dad treated Shirley and that he would even come on the set when they were making the Partridge Family (Shirley and Jack were still married at that time) and make plays for women right under Shirley’s nose. He had a great desire for attention and couldn’t really bring himself to be happy for David when he hit the bigtime due to being somewhat jealous of his own son!
That was uncalled for. Jack was both Mentally and Physically sick when he died. When Jack had his nervous breakdown, Shirley said that he was the one who wanted the divorce because it was going to be too hard to be around him. David was the one who was jealous of Jack’s looks and talent. To this day Shirley calls Jack the ‘love of her life’ and Jack has two grandchildren named after him.
