Sara Paxton Sounds Off on TBL Cancellation

Sara Paxton Sounds Off on TBL Cancellation

Sara Paxton is still shocked at the news that her new CW series, The Beautiful Life: TBL, was axed. The 21-year-old actress chatted with about her reactions, her disappointement and what she’s going to do next. Check it:

On how she reacted when she heard about the cancellation: “It’s unbelievable the way that they told us—we were all in the middle of work. I was sitting in the hair and makeup chair, and I’m getting my hair done just like a normal Friday—we were all excited for Friday. And all of a sudden, they got the call, and the producers had to make an announcement on set that we were done—that we were over! And I was sitting there in shock. I couldn’t believe that in the middle of work, the rug was pulled out beneath our feet. Immediately, I run over to Corbin’s [Bleu] room, and I’m like, ‘oh my God, oh my God!’ I was freaking out! And Corbin was shocked. Everyone was just devastated. It was horrible. Terrible.”

On how she feels about the CW not airing any of the other episodes: “It’s a slap in the face! It’s almost like we were part of this family and now suddenly we’re dropped. episodes three, four and five were going to be amazing. That’s what really sucks. You’ve got to have time to let a show get its legs and find an audience, especially when they’re putting zero dollars into advertising. I think it could’ve been huge for the CW. I really think they missed out, and I really think they’re missing out on a huge opportunity for themselves.”

On her next project will be: “Are you kidding me? [Laughs]. We thought we were going to be here until December. Literally we packed up our lives from Los Angeles to New York. I spent two months and thousands of dollars without a paycheck moving to NY. And now they just say, ‘oh, peace, you’re done?’ We all signed 6 month leases, and now we all have to figure out how to get out of our leases, and I have to figure out how to get all my furniture back. I don’t know what to do with this NY furniture. We’re kind of stranded.”

On why she thinks it was cancelled: ” The CW just didn’t put any money into advertising for our show whatsoever. It was up to the cast to keep the show going, so we went to every red carpet, we talked about the show, we publicized, we did twitter, we did everything we could possibly do to get the word out about the show. We thought it was really worth it because we care about the show—we care about each other and we wanted to make it work. But if people don’t know that the show even exists, they’re not going to watch it.”

    thats terrible…I WANT IT BACK!

  • Alexis

I think it’s a shame they canceled the show so soon; it never really had a chance to develop itself or and audience. In America today, we’re too focused on instant gratification that we can’t see the worth in long-term investments.

  • Crysandra lee

its because it sucked. the plot line was terrible there was no theme i couldn’t even get passed the first 5 minutes and also the bad thing about it is that it was airing the same night as glee which A LOT of people watch myself included so maybe if they aired it a different night it would have gotten more ratings…

  • Yanelly

i was in shock when i heard it was cancelled! i watched the pilot show & i honestly really enjoyed it! this show really did have a lot of potential and its very sad that it got cancelled.

i’m a fan of corbin, sara and misha so therefore i was going to tune in for them anyways. it just sucks.

im so dissapointed in the CW as well! how f-cked up was it in the way that they told them the news?! not cool, cw.

  • looovin

I really don’t really know why CW did that , i think TBL is good show….

  • Bee

i actually really liked this show. i think it had a lot of potential and i’m annoyed that the CW didn’t promote it at all.

  • moondirty

i’m so sad for them , oh sara oh corbin

  • tristessa

I feel bad, I really wanted to see this show and I’ve waited for see it (and Nico Tortorella) all summer, CW sucks!

  • Dee

I watched the two episodes that were aired and I thought the show had potential. They should have been given more a chance to gain a big audience. I couldn’t believe it was canceled after only two episodes. Networks have let crappy shows, show like 10 episodes before they are canceled not just 2 episodes.

  • Jo

sucks for them. but why after just 2 episodes, when most of the shows on CW get around 1 million viewers as well.

  • Trina

Wow!!!! The cast really got screwed. Guess it’s hard to make plans even for six months when you’re in show business. I watched the first two shows and have to admit, TBL was better than any of those stupid “reality” shows that are so not reality.

  • ivanka

they didn’t give it a chance, not fair

  • cris

    oooh poor them!
It must be really really hard for them!
    wow… thet didn’t give them a chance!!!

    that sooo mess up!

  • maria

i saw the first 2 episodes
    it was great
im so upset its cancelled..they could of at least finished the season

  • Nazeefa

I actually really liked the show so far. I mean it wasn’t terrible that they had to cut it off air!
    That’s horrible!

  • fan

CW should at least show 10 episodes, and give the storyline a chance to develop. After that then review the series and see where it is standing at that particular time. Just two episodes, come on…I have seen the TV series with bad ratings shown for the entire year before canceling it. CW could of let this TV series aire for at least one season/year and see how its rating performances are at the end of the season.

Hoping that the other TV networks will pick it up and aire it.

  • zanessa/scashley/ashnessa

I think its stupid how they put this show on the same time as Glee.

  • pop86

I did watch the 2 episodes and the show had potential. The CW made no effort in promoting the show. Sure it was up against Glee but it could still find audience like Gossip Girl did. Sara and rest of the cast have every right to be angry.

  • karinA

aww that sucks the show was good

  • Chanel

She is 100% right. Go Sara!!!

  • sam

The ratings were horrible, seriously it got the same rating as the paid programming that goes on the cw on sunday nights. I think that the cw has some shows in production, especially Life Unexpected, whose pilot has been getting really good reviews that they want to get out. They did what they needed to do to save money, but i think that the episodes that are already done with should at least air. That part sucks.

  • alycia

I LOVED that show!i think it’s incredibely stupid they canceled it so fast.CW never really gave it a chance.i’m pissed.

  • emmy

I agree with Sara. I didn’t even know when TBL was on because of the lack of advertising.

  • lindurris

this really sucks I was really exited for this week´s show and they canceled it? I mean I really liked the show and some actors are really attractive (Cole) but they shouldn´t have canceled it so quickly they never gave it a chance…… f *** CW that was retarded

  • God is my rock

Ithink we should start a petiotion to bring it back it was such a great idea. argh stupid desprate housewives is still going and my opinion is this one was better.

  • CHessa

If you want the beautiful life back on air sign the petition.

  • Angelita

This show was amazing and was very promising. i actually turned off glee to watch it. IF IT WASN’T FOR GOSSIP GIRL I WOULD BOYCOTT THE CW!

  • Daisy

i didn’t watch any episode, but i agree with everything she says, that how could they want a huge audience if they didn’t advertise it? and she’s very smart, very sincere. i like her already.

  • CHessa

if you want ‘The Beautiful Life’ back on air sign the petition.

  • Mony

Didn’t really watch the show, but CW is known for theit no promotion. OTH and Supernatural are only surviving because of fan pressure, they spend all their time markting Gossip Girls, 90210, e.t.c.
They only market the shows they want to do well, which is why I don’t understand why they bother to bring in new shows.

  • elena

I cant believe that they are actually cutting the show. Im in total shock! I loved that show. I saw the previews in summer and could not wait for the show to come out, now its canceling. This sucks.

  • Z

Ok, I wasn’t sure if I was going to watch the show at first. Especially since I live out of the States, and I’m not sure if it will even air here. But I think I would have given it a shot. I really don’t like it when people do something like that. 2 episodes is rarely enough to see whether a show will be a hit or not. It was a dumb move, and I feel terrible for the cast.

  • sarapaxtonfan

make no sense whatsoever . sara was right about everything. i hope another take the risk.

  • Courtney

Lack of advertising? Please. It’s not that they didn’t promote hard enough, it’s because no one was willing to give a Gossip Girl/America’s Next Top Model-type show a chance considering we see so much of it. But, lack of advertising? One Tree Hill gets CRAP advertising from The CW over 90210, Gossip Girl, and all new shows. They even did when they were on The WB and they’ve been around for seven seasons. I’m sorry… obviously the ratings were atrocious to get bumped after two episodes.

The WB went under the radar when Dawson’s Creek and Buffy were over and yet the new shows like Supernatural and One Tree Hill survived a network merger and beyond with very little advertising from the start. All eyes are on The CW because it’s new…if TBL couldn’t survive two episodes, I doubt with more advertising that they would’ve made it passed a season. I mean.. Melrose Place has so much advertising it’s nauseating and yet The CW still is considering dropping it. They’re waiting to see how ratings do when Heather Locklear shows up in November before they drop it.

I feel bad for the TBL cast because of uprooting their lives and after 2 episodes they get canned, but it’s Hollywood and you should always expect something like this with a new show. It’s better go in with all possible outcomes in mind… not every new show survives. If they did, where would they find room for the next batch of new shows the following season. Someone had to be cut to make room for TBL and now TBL will be cut to make room for something else.

  • Courtney

On another note… I knew about TBL since The CW first announced it was being done. I was going to watch it… but it comes on during other shows that look much more interesting so I opted for something else.

    ……..Maybe other people do too.

  • lily

That sucks! They really screwed them over! I feel bad, CW sucks!

  • troy

I had as much interest in this show as I have in every other show on the absolute joke of a network that is the CW which is none whatsoever. But still to cancel a show after only two episodes is totally unfair. I wasn’t even aware the show had even premiered that’s how little effort the network put in the show. Since they obviously didn’t want it why did they even greenlight it in the first place?

  • Aurianab

    I’m very sad.
    This show is amazing. <3
    Go Sara !!!

  • tisu

bugger. i love this show. and it is mean how they treated those cast.

  • Trish

I wish she’d taken time to cool off first before giving out any interviews. That interview did not reflect well on her, regardless of how valid here gripes are. A good number of new shows get canned every year, that’s just how it is. It’s not the first time it’s happened, and it’s not the end of the world. I don’t know about the lack of marketing. I’m in Asia and I heard about the show. I saw the pilot a few days ago and as far as I’m concerned, this show should never have been picked up to begin with. Good decision by the CW, I say.

  • nna

GOSH!! how could they cut that show?! the show is really great!! i love it!!!

  • Meg

i say RALLY! i personally LOVED the ONE episode i watched and it doesnt even air where i’m from. i had to really look for it just to be able to watch it. remember CHUCK? They rallied for a 2nd season. i say RALLY to continue TBL. fuck CW man.

  • lucas

i love the show, really! i think she’s right for everything…i’m sad for them!

  • Carla

wow! they did terrible! They were in the middle of work and suddenly they have NO job. I’m feeling bad for them! This serial was very promising, but they didn’t do anything of advertising, so …

    It doens’t matter, Sara!
You all rock and i’d love to see you all again on tv or cinema very soon.

  • trish

This breaks my heart for her and the rest of the cast. The show was GREAT and yeah, the CW never really gave it a chance or even tried to save it. So many people forget that sometimes with things like these, the actors are literally sitting there waiting for the payoff and take chances, like Sara did on her lease. Freaking horrible that now she’s left up in the air to dangle and not knowing.

  • Dani

I`m fan of Corbin, Sarah and Mischa too, this is sooooo sad

  • fabp

i think anything attached to Mischa Barton is jinxed….she’s following Lindsey Lohan’s career – just too bad the rest become casualties.

  • istar

i was sooo excited to see the storyline that formed between corbin and that older woman. it sucks that it got cancelled.

  • Louberry

I feel terrible for them, especially Sara, because I’m a very very old fan of hers, and I know it was her chance to do something big…

CW cancelled it without even promoting. Where were the TBL posters at the streets? I mean I LOVE Vampire Diaries, since the books and stuff, but they promoted it very very well.

This show had a great plot, I waited a long time to see it, and now they’re just not airing it. It’s ridiculous. TERRIBLE JOB, CW!
