Corbin Bleu snaps a pic with his old mentor Debbie Allen as they step out at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy’s annual fundraiser at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles on Thursday evening (December 10).
The 20-year-old actor will be using the skills she taught him to the test when he steps into the role of Usnavi in In The Heights next year on Broadway.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, who originated the role of Usnavi, wrote on the BroadwayWorld Message Boards boasting Corbin. He said, “Now as for Corbin Bleu, chalk it up to ambition. The dude came in and straight SMASHED his audition. But can he “hold the flow?” Well, I know the part, I did it. We’d NEVER cast someone unless they proved that they could spit it. When he came in the room, I ain’t think that he would get it. He won us over, pa. You can tell the haters I said it.”
Corbin added on his Twitter afterwards, “Thank you Mr. Miranda. And I promise everyone that I will be working my a– off!”
