Logan Lerman leans back on a comfy bed, stringing guitar strings in this new shot from his Vanity Fair feature.

The 17-year-old Percy Jackson star sat down with the mag to chat about YouTube videos, loving movie sets and the ultimate film school. Check it:

On making YouTube vids with his best friend Dean Collins: “My best friend [Dean] and I used to make those [short videos] when we were younger. We’re still very young, but back in the day, we used to make those videos. It’s funny: ‘back in the day’ for us is, like, three years ago. But those are little movies that we made with no plot. Shoot it in a day and edit it at night, just to learn the programs and how to use a camera on our own and stuff like that. But we actually do write real material. We have stuff we want to produce one day, you know?”

On becoming a completely different person on a movie set: “It’s strange when I’m going into a scene. It’s a whole different personality; it’s a whole different feeling. I try to build these artificial comfort levels. It’s kind of—a person comes out, like I get loud and talkative. I don’t get the jitters and I don’t get nervous, because I build that comfort on set for myself. Sometimes if I’m gonna do something really crazy, it helps me to yell or look like an idiot on set, so that when I’m about to do a scene, I’ve already embarrassed myself. I find ways to work around getting the jitters. I love movie sets. It’s another home for me. Movie theaters and movie sets—they’re just the best places to be. I love them.”

On the thought of going to film school: “He’s my best friend [Dean Collins], and we write together and we have aspirations of making these films together. We kind of looked at ourselves recently and said, ‘Wait. We’ve had the best film school.’ We have had the best knowledge — it’s just been drilled into our heads. The format of a script. And, also, we go to the movies pretty much every day. I’m always in the theater seeing everything, good or bad. This knowledge has been drilled into us—so why not start now?”
