David Archuleta is set to join the Spanish recording of “We Are The World,” according to Billboard.com.

    Jessica:
David’s Mother is Honduran, David speaks spanish to his grandparents, he says he isn’t fluent but Spanish was his first language according to him.
He speaks spanish with a perfect accent. I can’t wait to hear him sing this song.

  • Marcela

Looks like the Latino community really enjoys David talents. I hope they gonna do better than the english version….Poor MJ , his song was just destroyed.

And Jessica, his mother is from Hondures and his father from Spain the spanish/latino roots are on his blood. :)

  • swiftfan

    jessica
youtube David’s version of Contigo at the Alma Awards and you’ll see how well he can sing in Spanish. He’s not fluent, he calls it “pretty broken”, but he can speak well enough with his abuelita so that she can understand him.

David’s mother is from Honduras and his father is Spanish, Danish, Irish, German, Iroquois, and Mexican.

  • heidijoy

Jessica David’s mother is Honduran. Both parents speak Spanish. David has sung in Spanish before. He also speaks some Spanish and he has grandparents that only speak Spanish. He actually does have the Black Hair and beautiful skin and looks like his Mom and Maternal grandmother. He sang @ the Alma awards and got rave reviews.

In any case, thrilled that he is part of this song and charity.

  • sarah

You didn’t know he could speak Spanish? His mom is from Honduras. You should watch this video. He can kick any adult singers’ butt!!

Hope he gets a solo part but it’s all good either way! I sure he’s glad just to be part of a good cause.

His dad’s European and mom’s Honduran. I also believe he has a bit of Chinese in him as well.

  • dani

Go David! I think he speaks spanish better than he says (he thinks he sounds funny, looks weird and can’t dance, too -ha! we know better David!)

David is such a good choice to participate in this recording. When he sang at the Alma Awards he blew everyone away with his gorgeous voice and presence on the stage. Cannot wait to hear the final product!

  • Karen

David speaks Spanish somewhat. His accent is spot-on. He did an incredible job singing ‘Contigo en la Distancia” on the Alma Awards when he won for Male Rising Star.

Spanish was his mother tongue, but when the family moved to Utah from Miami when he was six y/o, he lost the language. He’s taken a couple of years of Spanish in high school and speaks to his maternal grandparents in Spanish (slowly, he says, and that they’re patient with him).

David’s mother is from Honduras. His dad knows Spanish coz he served a Spanish-speaking LDS mission in Pennsylvania. After his mission, he met David’s mom, Lupe, when working in Miami. I’ve read that David’s dad is Basque and Danish. I don’t know what else for sure except that he’s definitely not Chinese.

David does have TONS of Asian fans, though. He’s HUGE in the Philippines, did a concert there with Cook before 50,000+ paying fans and about that many more on the periphery of the concert. He also went to Kuala Lampur and Singapore on the trip and was met by big crowds everywhere and a lot of enthusiasm.

  • Jessica

    AWESOME!!!

  • shelbie

Oops, sorry about mistakenly stating David was part Chinese, I though I read it somewhere a while back. Thanks Karen for the addl’ info & correction. I didn’t mean to mislead anyone.

Can’t wait to watch the video and I’ll download it for sure!
