Miley Cyrus & Nicholas Sparks are Book Buddies

Miley Cyrus and author Nicholas Sparks stop to snap a pic by the bookshelves in this new shot from USA Today.

The duo caught up with the newspaper to chat about their favorite books, Miley‘s character Ronnie and the upcoming The Last Song. Check it:

Nicholas on his favorite love stories: “A romance novel is supposed to make you escape into a fantasy of romance. What is the purpose of what I do? These are love stories. They went from (Greek tragedies), to Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ then Jane Austen did it, put a new human twist on it. Hemingway did it with ‘A Farewell to Arms.’”

Miley on her transition from Hannah to Ronnie: “With the book, I’ve only gotten through part of ‘The Last Song,’ because the movie started first. It’s got things I would like…even the name — I picked ‘Ronnie’ for my granddad. Things like that. But it was not written to make it easy for me, either. Anything that would make her [Ronnie's] parents happy is something she doesn’t want to do.”

The Last Song opens in theaters Wednesday, March 31st.

Oh that’s just a bunch of baloney. There has never been any insinuation that he was pressured into doing anything. The guy had already made a name for himself as author, one whose work had seen success transformed onto the big screen. He was in a position to chose what he wanted to write or not write about. I suppose you hold the same opinion for writers who have written songs Miley has sung. Oh the pressure! LOL

  • monica

I love love stories. I always read them and watch them. Jane Austen is an amazing writer. Pride & Prejudice was an amazing movie and book. I also enjoy dear john(movie). But I have to say romeo and juliet is my favorite. I love the movie ( 1968 version)and the actor who plays romeo looks like zac efron.

I also like east of eden the movie with james dean. Robert pattinson takes inspiration from james dean in that movie.

Do you guys see the similarities between them?

I know what Greek Tragedy is. I went to middle school. And what Nicholas Sparks writes is not Greek Tragedy.

Having something terrible happen at the end of his books does not a Greek Tragedy make. Classic tragedy stems from a character’s fatal flaw, one he never learns from, which kills him in the end. Sparks, in fact, do the opposite. He kills, destroys, or give Alzheimer’s to truly ethical characters as a cheap way to tug at the heartstrings of his audience. Sparks gives the audience everything they want and then turns a 180 in order to ensure they cry by the end.
