The star-making machinery consists of two components — building a star up, and tearing them down; construction/demolition.

Miley’s success has much to do with successful interventions against the tearing down side of the star machine. When Miley told Parade Magazine that Disney made her feel claustrophobic, it is more like they kept her in a butterfly killing jar. They kept her in the Matrix. She will need more than being a Type A personality to overcome the star demolition machinery. She will need more than simply not swimming with the current, or more than simply being a non-conformist.

She would do well to study Joseph Campbell’s hero’s journey, and select roles more like those such as Dakota Fanning tends to choose, (risky, less safe), regardless of the scorn and criticism and derision, which are the devices that the star demolition machinery uses to shape choices of stars to make them trite and irrelevant in order to herd them off of the stage and screen and out of the public’s consciousness.

We see in many candid photos of Dakota Fanning, that she spends a lot of time crying — beyond any shadow of doubt due to the level of difficulty of her acting. Miley should be prepared to endure nothing less than the same if she aspires to reach and sustain such lofty heights.
