Emma Watson Defines British Style

While in NYC to co-host the London show Rooms closing party at Pulino’s, Emma Watson caught up with WWD about British style.

The 19-year-old actress shared, “It’s so funny because now that I’m in America, I’m more able to define it. Before I didn’t have an awareness of another style. I think [British style] has to do with the weather. We have terrible weather. It’s very gray and drizzly so we need things to cheer us up. And I think that leads to a lot of creativity and color, and I think that’s why our designers are so innovative.

Emma continued, “Because at home we’re kind of up against the elements in a sense. And we need cheering up. I think we do very well with kind of an eclectic mix. We have great vintage and we love to mix and match: high street and high fashion, vintage…and I think that really defines it as well.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK of British style? Do you think it differs from American style?

Great answer!! British style is definitely different from American style and Emma’s explanation was perfect. The weather is England is muggy most of the time, so the British have to be more creative when it comes to style.
    Love her!

As a fashion student, she just did my homework better than me. And I don’t think she opened a book to do it.

yes!! so true! i hate the weather here, it was raining all last night! i’m always trying to make warm clothes look nice, but it’s not as hard anymore because we have great shops like River Island and Miss Selfridge. I do love our fashion here, 1 other reason that I’m proud to be British! x x x

You can tell Emma loves fashion. She has fun with it. I always love what she wears.

Dressing for the fun of it: definitely yes.
Dressing for the weather: definitely not.
At night during Scottish autumns, most girls go out wearing miniskirts! And after Helloween, they merely add a pair of tights to their outfit. When I saw the Scottish winter school-uniform of little girls involved short skirts, I stopped wondering why nobody bothered to dress according to the weather.

Yes! American teen style would be mostly heels, jeans and jacket but with alot of accesories. But british teen style is mostly very rave style. Colour like yellow, bright green and red bomber jacket is popular among them, not forgetting the really awesome printed t-shirts. What i see is that British dress so casually compared to Americans.
