The 18-year-old Secret Life star opened up about being heartbroken, drugs in high school and what it’s really like wearing a brace all day. Check it:
On what her high school life was like: “I was never the party girl. I know a lot of people in high school who smoke weed. At some parties, I know that people snorted coke on the table or heroin, but I’ve never seen that. It was mainly pills. There are a lot of people in school who do drugs and do turn their lives around, but it’s hard to do. I’m just grateful that I never tried it. I’ve always been really interested in my health. As long as I’m not putting poison into my body, I’m fine.”
On her tough heart: “”There’s been times when I’ve had heartbreaking moments and I’m like, ‘I can’t believe you said that,’ or ‘I can’t believe you did that’. And it hurts, it still hurts, and it’ll always hurt, but I’ve never had somebody that I truly cared about just walk out on me, whether it was a boyfriend, or an aunt, mom or dad. I mean, I think the only time my heart’s actually been broken is when someone has died.”
On living and dealing with scoliosis: “I wore it [my brace] for two years, sophomore and junior years. And I hated it. But at school, it was totally cool…What sucked was I could have it off only six hours a day. So I had to sleep in it; I had to do everything in it. There were times when I just wanted to tear it off and times I cried and I’d hate it or it just got so painful. Every two weeks, it would push even harder, and I felt like all my organs were moving, and my entire body was sore. But there are kids hooked up to ventilators their entire lives, and that brace is nothing compared to what they go through. That’s just how I looked at it.”
