JJJ Book Club's October Pick: 'Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick' by Joe Schreiber
Anyone love a good adventure? In “Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick” by Joe Schreiber, you’ll certainly get one.
The short summary: Perry Stormaire is a normal high school senior– he is busy applying to college and rehearsing with his band –until he agrees to go to the prom with the Lithuanian exchange student who is staying with his family. It turns out that Gobi Zaksauskas is not the mousy teenager that she seems but rather an attractive, confident trained assassin and instead of going to the prom, Perry finds himself on a wild ride through the streets of New York City as Gobi takes out her targets.
Why you should read it: It’s a constant adventure. Told from Perry’s point of view, you’ll see just how ‘crazy’ Gobi is. Through the nightlife of New York City, the two hit a lot of recognizable places — just to blow them up. There are more than two car chases, henchmen, and yes, there is a bear fight. Really.
But, if you don’t want to read the fun Ferris Bueller meets La Femme Nikita read, you can always wait for the movie.
Honorable Mentions: “Beautiful Chaos” by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl (more on this later!), “You Are My Only” by Beth Kephart and “Fox & Phoenix” by Beth Bernobich.
