David Archuleta: Going on A Mission for Two Years!

David Archuleta: Going on A Mission for Two Years!

David Archuleta made a huge announcement last night during his concert in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The 20-year-old singer shared with the packed crowd that he’s putting his music career on hold for a mission!

“I would like to make a special announcement: that I’ve chosen to serve a full-time mission,” David shared. “It’s not because somebody told me that I was supposed to do it, not because that I no longer want to do music anymore, but it’s because it’s the feeling that I felt that I need to do next in my life.”

He added, “It’s just the same feeling that I’ve always followed, tried to follow in my life. It’s the feeling that has allowed me to have the opportunities that I’ve had, the challenges that I’ve overcome and the blessings, too. And I’ve learned to trust that feeling, and I’ve learned that I need to answer when it calls. And that is the reason why I know I need to do this in my life.”

David will serve on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for two years and can be sent anywhere in the world.

I was there, I cried like a baby! David sounded amazing and got many standing ovations from the sold-out crowd!

  • alana

I’m still crying, 2 years without seeing your sweet face! I’m proud of you though, trying not to be selfish. You have been such a positive inspiration, I’m sure you will touch and inspire all you encounter as a missionary for the lord. I will pray for your health and safety every day. Be strong, keep the faith, and come back to your loving fans as soon as possible. I love you.

i respect your decision. so glad i got to meet you, never met anyone like you. so humble, kind, never a negative word about anyone no matter what. your voice is a gift from God,and you have a wonderful soul. i pray you will be kept safe, and you will receive many blessings on your mission.. it is an honor to be your fan.

Dang, I need another hobby for two years until he comes back. But there is no perfect singer that I can find in the music biz. I don’t deal with those who can’t sing live or gossip makers.

    Wait,wait,wait…DON’T GO! SOB!

  • kelly

So happy for him. His career will wait and he will come back and have even more success I’m sure.

    where is my comment?

  • Kingston

Justjaredjr, will you move him over to the Justjared main site when he comes back? He will be 22/23 by then. Anyways, ditto on all the above comments. So much respect for a guy who is willing to give up the perks and money making opportunities David had to go on a mission. Hopefully there will be a way for him to communicate with the fans during the two year mission. I’m totally addicted to his tweets and vlogs.

I think it would be a nice break for him!! He’s been continuously running up to this point. It’s a good time frame for people to find out that a lot of the singers who are famous now can’t sing and what they are creating is crap music. All of this is just a phase anyway. He’ll have the appreciation when he comes back bc people would have gotten sick of all the crap that’s out there now…He has no time limit on his career and he’s so young too!! I’m hoping that they might shorten the mission period I don’t think I could take having him gone for so long:( I hope he keeps practicing so that when he returns he’ll be in good shape!! I’m going to miss you so much><

I have so much respect for David. He sounds SO sweet. I can’t stop listening to any of his music… I really hope that people will realize that what music is popular right now isn’t all that great… It’s not very clean either… I know that when David comes back his voice will be just as good or better. David if you just so happen to read this, when you are teaching people, use your voice. Teach them with your music. Sing. David I would say I wish everyone would love you and your music, but then you might be different… So be popular, just not as popular as Selena Gomez.

David should Not shorten his mission. Its two years of service for the LOrd. Its the best decision he could make,. He did not make the Donny osmond mistake by not servicing a mission. He will be a great missionary. All his cares will be put aside and forcused on one things. Spreading the Good news of Jesus christ.

I applaud him and support him 100 Percent.

    SO PROUD OF HIM!!!!!!!!

When I first saw this, I was amazed and now I’m CONFUSED…BECAUSE he just signed a contract to a TV Station here in Philippines.. TV5.. So does that mean he’s no longer doing the mission or does it mean that he is, but he got sent to Philippines and he figured he might as well work while he’s on mission??

PLEASE, can someone follow up this report.. I am just very curious as to what made him sign the contract with TV5?!

  • Kit
