OlderLucas Grabeel Wanted To Be 'A Rock Star, Karate Teacher & Archeologist'
Lucas Grabeel rocked out on last night’s mid-season premiere of Switched At Birth.
The 27-year-old actor sat down with ABC Family to chat about the musical side of him.
On learning to play: “At the age of eight, I picked up my dad’s big classical guitar and couldn’t reach my fingers over the neck to play so my dad traded in his guitar to get me a small electric one. My family always had a piano in the house. My mom played and my sister took lessons. I just played by ear, which was a much slower process.”
On his inspirations: “My influences are from singer/songwriters like Jeff Buckley, Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews, and Andrew Bird, to avant-garde jazz greats like Pharaoh Sanders, Herbie Hancock, and Miles Davis. I also love dance music and enjoy mixing several genres through electronic devices.”
On wanting to be a rock star: “I wrote my first song at the age of twelve, and I think that is when I really saw the dream as a reality. My friends and I played it over and over again while imagining ourselves rocking with a huge crowd at our feet.”

this guy is super talented, but he doesn’t get any media attention cause he’s not in a high profile relationship like some of his hsm costars were. i hope he gets some great parts that can showcase his talent.

kami, i agree. he’s just not getting the attention he deserves, he’s like staying out of the spotlight, i don’t know why. he’s super talented: he sings, he acts, he has mad dance skills, he draws really good, he also directed few music videos… i can say he’s the most talented young star in hollywood at the moment. pure talent. it’s really such a shame that the talented people are left behind, only cause they don’t like to get into drama and public scandals. it’s just doesn’t seem right.

i agree with kami and julie both – obviously. you never see him out there trying desperately cause a scene to get attention or get a one-day marriage just to see his name in the lights for one day and then move onto the next big scheme. i hate how ignored he always is, i mean, what more does a guy need to fill the requirements of perfect?? good looking, balanced, polite, intelligent and extremely talented. and this is Lucas Grabeel.
I agree with you guys. He’s one of the best young actors at the moment. He’s also a very good singer. Writing a song at age 12 is amazing. Like julie said, it is unfair that talented people are left behind.
