The 25-year-old actress chatted with us about her passion for food, her character Mads and what’s coming up on The Lying Game. Check it:
On what appealed to her about Mads: “I love that she’s a ballet dancer. I never had a character before who had a particular talent or skill or life outside of their family. It’s fun to play a teenager with a passion for something. On the flipside of that, it was a lot more difficult than I would’ve given that credit for. I’m not a dancer so the training for it was very strenuous. I had assumed they would’ve had a double for me, but they didn’t. I had to do it all, but it was really fun.”
On what she really wants to make in the kitchen: “Thai curries. I’m so intimidated by them and it’s my favorite dish to eat. I pretty much live on Indian and Thai food throughout the week. I order take-out or get the left overs to go from a restaurant. It’s a good way to get my vegetables in. I’m not a huge vegetable eater — salads are so not my thing (laughs), but you have to be balanced. But the spices of the curry and the flavors, the smell…I love it all.
If you pull up an Indian curry or Thai curry recipe, there are a lot of ingredients and they aren’t typical ingredients that most people have in their cupboards at all times like saffron rice or sweet chili paste, a lot of it is very specialized. It’s definitely something I have on my to-do list at some point.”
On what you can expect on The Lying Game: “Mads and Thayer definitely get closer. We’re siblings and we used to be really close, but since he’s been helping Sutton, we grew apart. So, we become closer again and start to really get suspicious of our dad, Alec. At first, Mads does not want to think anything bad about her dad, so she’s trying to convince her brother to lay off. You know, be a family, get along. Eventually, though, she just can’t be blind anymore.
Then towards the later half, Mads gets a ball dropped on her. I can say that much. My storyline picks up a lot more towards the end of the first season.”
