Raise your hand if you read “Beastly.” What about “Cloaked”?
Author Alex Flinn has been modernizing fairy tales for the new generation and is back with a new tale, “Bewitching” — for Kendra, the witch from “Beastly.” It’s her turn to tell her story.
Book summary: Kendra Hilferty tells about her immortal existence — how she discovered she was a witch and the various ways she has used her powers to help people throughout the centuries. (Unfortunately her attempts have often backfired.) As it turns out, Kendra has actually had a hand in “Hansel and Gretel,” “The Princess and the Pea,” and “The Little Mermaid” — but these are not the fairy tales you think you know! Kendra’s reminiscences are wrapped around a real-time version of “Cinderella,” except the “ugly” stepsister is the good guy.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: There are many reasons to read this book and we’ll state the obvious. It’s a fairy tale. Everyone loves a fairy tale, especially one about our favorite character from a previous novel. You get to hear her side of her story, how she came to who she is, and meet a few familiar faces along the way.
HONORABLE MENTIONS: “Born Wicked” by Jessica Spotswood, “The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight” by Jennifer E. Smith, and “How To Rock Braces and Glasses” by Meg Haston.
