It’s going to be a busy summer for Elle Fanning.

The 14-year-old actress has just signed on the dotted line to star in God Help The Girl, a musical written and directed by Belle & Sebastian frontman Stuart Murdoch.

The project began in late 2003 when Murdoch started writing a few songs that had a “girl group” sound which eventually led to the concept album God Help The Girl, that was released in 2009.

Olly Alexander will play James, a cynical guitarist who accompanies Eve’s singing and becomes a mentor to Cass (Fanning), an American teen who tags alongside the duo as she learns to play the guitar.

Filming will begin in Glasgow in June before Elle heads off to film Maleficent.
