It’s okay, we can all admit that we’re closet Teen Mom watchers. It’s a guilty pleasure.
Have you ever thought about what teenage pregnancy would be like in the future, though? Luckily, Martin Leicht and Isla Neal have written “Mothership” — July’s book club pick!
WHAT IT’S ABOUT: It’s 2074 and Elvie Nara is doing just fine — before she got involved with sweet, gorgeous, dumb-as-a-brick Cole — and now she’s pregnant. She’s shipped off to the Hanover School for Expecting Teen Mothers when a team of hot commandos hijacks the ship — and one of them turns out to be Cole.
She hasn’t seen him since she told him she’s pregnant, and now he’s bursting into her new home to tell her that her teachers are aliens and want to use her unborn baby to repopulate their species. Now, she’s figuring out how Cole ended up as a commando, trying to work together with her arch-nemesis, and finding out if she wants to be a mom at all — assuming they get back to Earth in one piece.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: Elvie is pregnant, on a spaceship and kicking alien butt trying to protect her unborn child. What other reason is there? But honestly — the book takes a cliche and spins it around, making you keep guessing at what’s going to happen next. There’s humor, action and a cliffhanger, since this is only the first book in the series.
