The 21-year-old starlet may be new to the music scene, but she’s already making a name for herself in Nashville and she even lives in the same building as Taylor Swift! Find out what she had to say when we caught up with her in the Big Apple. Check it:
JJJ: The story of how you got discovered is dream-like. Can you tell our readers a bit about your journey?
LC: Well, I’m from Boston, Massachusetts. I was studying business in school there and singing was more of just a personal thing for me, it wasn’t really anything I intended to share with anyone. Then, when I went down to Nashville to do an internship, I met some producers. At first I just thought they’d help me get an internship, but then they ended up hearing some of my stuff and asked me to come to LA and record a demo, which ended up turning into an album! It’s been very unexpected…
JJJ: Do you feel like your life is unreal right now?
LC: Absolutely. I feel like I discovered what my dream was and am living it!
JJJ: You write a lot of your own music. What’s the weirdest place you’ve ever came up with a song?
LC: I was sitting in a field actually. I got really stressed out one day and just drove into the country. For me that was a little weird.

JJJ: What’s your favorite song off your album Sunrise:
LC: “I like You.” I wrote it about this boy that I had the biggest crush on. I’m really, really happy with how it came together in the studio and it’s a fun one to sing.
JJJ: You have a new single called “Naive.” What’s it about?
LC: I wrote this song when I was having an angry moment. (Laughs) It’s about an ex boyfriend…I just looked back and realized how slightly oblivious I’d been. He just was never going to grow up…I think every girl has that one [guy], ya know? I recently just came back from tour and actually had a lot of girls come up to me and say they had been in that exact [same] situation. So it’s my angry song, but it’s a good little tune that makes you feel better.
JJJ: Speaking of touring, do you ever get nervous when you have to go on stage?
LC: Yeah, yes I do. It’s just one of those things. I never expected to be a performer so it took me a little while to get used to it.
JJJ: Is there anything you always make sure you pack when you travel from place to place?
LC: This is so weird, but I have this giant makeup bag just of lipstick! I have to bring all different colors because I never know what outfit I’m going to be in. I’m a big lipstick girl and I have to match my outfit with my lipstick!
JJJ: That’s so funny! If you could have any actor play your boyfriend in one of your music videos, who would you pick?
LC: Chace Crawford! He’s like the most adorable man on the planet. I like gawk over him every time I watch [Gossip Girl].
JJJ: We love him too! Since your album Sunrise earlier this month, a lot of people have been calling you the next Taylor Swift! Are you a fan of hers?
LC: I am, yeah. I am the same age as her, so you know when she was 16 and I was 16 and she came out with her first album I was like millions of other girls who listened to her music and thought she said exactly what I felt. For me, that’s why I write songs because I think there’s just that connection factor when somebody says something that you’re feeling that’s what it’s all about. For me, just because of my age and what I write about I think it’s a great comparison and I really appreciate it.
JJJ: You’re also her neighbor, right?
LC: Yeah, I live in the same building as her! I’ve never really got into a conversation with her, but I’ve passed her and sometimes we see each other on the elevator.
JJJ: If you guys ever had a song writing session together, what kind of music do you think you’d come up with?
LC: (Laughs) Well, I guess the first answer that comes to my head is an angry song! You know I think we’re very similar that we both left home and there are a lot of lessons that you learn when you’re in a big city alone and all that, so maybe even more of like a freedom type song
JJJ: Do you play instruments as well?
LC: Yes! I play guitar mainly and I also dabble on the piano. I use the piano to write a lot also.
JJJ: What’s something that people would be surprised to find out about you?
LC: Let’s see…I guess because some of my music is very laid back, and I feel like because of the way I do my makeup and stuff, people wouldn’t know that I’m such a girly girl. I’m not laid back when it comes to that. I hate leaving my house without being put together. I’m a big, big, girly girl. I love pretty dresses and shoes!
JJJ: Since breaking into the entertainment industry have you met anyone that you would like to become BFFs with?
LC: Hmm, that’s tough. You know what? The other day in passing, I met Hayden Panettiere. She was just the sweetest thing ever and since then I’ve just want to be friends with her!
JJJ: Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?
LC: I can do handstands for a really long time. I was a dancer for a really long time. Whenever I’m in a giant open space I feel like I need to do a handstand (laughs).
JJJ: You have amazing fans! Is there anything you’d like to tell them?
LC: Yes! I love chatting with my fans. so if you want to send me a tweet please do!
FYI: Sunrise is available now!
