Gabby Douglas sits pretty in an orange top during her appearance on MTV’s This Is How I Made It, which aired over the weekend.
The 16-year-old Olympian reflects on the 2012 Olympics, her teammates and leaving her family to train. check it:
On training away from her family: “The teenager life, the normal life of going to school, going to prom, sure I missed out. But few people get to experience going to the Olympics or few people get to experience going on the podium. Yeah, I had hard days where I was just like, I don’t want to do this anymore, I want to go to the mall, I wanna go to the midnight showing of Breaking Dawn, but you have to commit. Even though you have hard days you have to learn how to push through them. Because you’ll have no regrets. And that’s the best thing in life.”
On her relationship with her teammates: “We’re competing against each other, so we’re pulling for each other, we’re cheering for each other, but at the same time we have to focus on our routines and what we’re gonna do.”
On her future in gymnastics: “I definitely want to go to Rio, and plan on making the 2016 gymnastics team. I’m still young, I’m still fresh, and I don’t think I want to retire just yet. I want to accomplish much more.”
On getting the gold: “When I was standing on the podium receiving the gold medal, I just thought about all the hard days and all the hard work and effort that I put into this. This has been such an amazing Olympic journey for me.”
