The 19-year-old actress opens up about her future projects, charity and staying normal. Check it:
On looking beyond Victorious: “As far as TV or movies, I’m just looking for a role I can sink my teeth into. I love comedy, but if I were to do another TV show, I would want it to be so different than my character on Victorious. In other words, I’m looking for a challenging dramatic role. It doesn’t really matter to me if it’s film or TV, just as long as the material is something that I’m excited about. As for music, that’s my focus right now. I’m busy writing songs for my debut album. I love writing because it’s something that I create and can mold any way I want. It’s not a script that’s being handed to me and I have no choice in the matter, but to read someone else’s words.
“When it comes to music, I’m driving the bus and I like having the control. I also love collaborating with people I respect and admire. When you have great chemistry with a producer, it makes all the difference in the world. I’m really lucky that I get to explore both worlds…so going forward, I would like to keep doing both… let’s see what happens.”
On keeping herself grounded: “I never have to remind myself that I’m a normal 19 year old girl, if anything I forget that people are going to recognize me from TV or Fun Size. I’m still me, I’m just in a not so normal circumstance. I do pretty much the same things that most people my age do. I go to the movies, hang with friends…you know, the usual stuff.”
On Girl Up: “It’s about bringing awareness to the cause and helping to raise funds to help girls in developing countries who just don’t have the same opportunities that we are so fortunate to have here. Last year during my concert, we gave a sneak peak of the music video and had GirlUp booths set up where girls could sign up and help spread the word. The response was great! At the moment, we’re trying to raise twenty thousand dollars for the cause. I just looked today and we’re about $1,700.00 away. When we reach it, I will release the song I wrote for Girl Up along with the music video.”
