Shailene Woodley: Hazel in 'Fault in Our Stars' Movie!

Shailene Woodley has officially landed the role of Hazel Grace Lancaster in the upcoming film The Fault in Our Stars!

“I am absolutely thrilled that Shailene will be playing Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars,” the novel’s author John Green told Entertainment Weekly. “It means a lot to me that she is a fan of the book, and I know from our conversations that she has a profound understanding of Hazel. Watching her audition, I felt like Hazel Grace Lancaster was talking to me. It was eerie–and very exciting.”

“Over 250 girls read for the part, but it wasn’t until Shailene stepped in front of the camera that I truly saw Hazel for the first time. It was like lightning striking. I can’t wait for the rest of the world to see what I have,” director Josh Boone added.

Shailene is currently filming her role as Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and she will soon get to work as the heroine Beatrice Prior in Divergent. Such an exciting time for her!!

I already hate this adaptation, even though it’s one of my fave books ever. Why is she being cast in everything? Please, Shailene stop it, there are plenty of good actresses besides you

I personally think she can’t act at all. I was so looking forward to this book becoming a movie. I’m a lot less excited knowing she’ll be in it.

honestly she is getting overexposed its like everyone wants to attach her name to something to boost the hype of the movie.

Dont mistake this for hate i am just saying she is a talented girl with a very bright future but she sgould take things one day at a time. having said that congratulations to her.

You guys are so mean. Honestly, are you really blaming her? The author of the book picked her – obviously he knows what the character should be like. She’s just getting her movie career started. She made one movie and got nominated for a Golden Globe. Even though I was never interested in The Secret Life, I think she’s a fine actress and you guys shouldn’t be so quick to judge. It’s not like all of these movies are actually coming out at the same time.

Shailene is The Real Deal! She has lot’s of acting experience, she was outstanding in the Descendants (really one of The Best acting performances of the year!) and she’s quite the professional.
(Btw, How many of you know she also got – besides all the awards & noms she got last year – a Sundance Film Festival Special Jury Award earlier this year?)

Now that Real Life is done (living up to her ‘obligation’ – think about all the things she COULD have been doing instead!) her career is gonna really take off!

Congrats, from a big fan!

I’m sure she will be great at Hazel, but I couldn’t help feeling upset when I found out she got the role. I guess it’s because since I read the book, I have my own adaption of what Hazel is supposed to look like, and, in my opinion, Shailene doesn’t look like her. When I go to the movies, I know all I’ll be able to think about is Secret Life of the American Teenager, which I think will kindof ruin it for me because I imagine Hazel as a sweet shy girl, and on the secret life, Shailene plays a ****** teen mom. I’ve never actually watched the show, but…still. If John Green thinks she is perfect, than that’s all that matters. I’m sure she’ll be great anyways. I can’t wait!!

If anyone is calling her a bad actress cause of the secret life well then that entire cast is classed as horrible actors, it is the writing of the secret life that makes them act the way they do the writing is horrible how they repeat what they are saying ALLLLLL the time.

@Markel:

Oops! Of course I meant Secret Life, not real life (ie. thinking leaving Secret Life for the real world). Btw, haven’t read the book, but I have 2 daughters (just like in The Descendents!); and, from the sounds of it I think Shailene would be perfect for Hazel!

Congratulation on her role! But I expected Hailee Steinfeld, Elle Fanning, or the younger ones to be Hazel role.

Lets see her Spider-Man before we make any decisions, she was good in descentents, give her a chance

Just to clarify, the author has little to no say in casting. He is happy about the decision because he is gracious about the movie adaptation. I don’t think she has much potential considering her past works. I also think it’s impulsive of directors to choose her as a main lead in every popular book to movie adaptation because she has 2 other roles and no one has seen how good or bad she is in either of them. Hoping to be knocked off my feet by her performance but my expectations are very low.

@kat: You obviously haven’t seen the decedents, that’s the role where everyone was astonished by and she got alot of hipe for. Obviously casting directors know what they’re doing.

I think she looks a bit too old for the role. And for those who watch The Secret Life, they’ll only see her as that character. Don’t pick the star of a long running tv show to star in a deep amazing book movie. I’m kind of disappointed.
