'The Vampire Diaries' Recap: 'American Gothic'

The race for the cure heated up during tonight’s (March 28) action-packed episode of The Vampire Diaries.

Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) were still on the hunt for Katherine and the cure, and found themselves meeting up with a very old friend.

Meanwhile, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) had a serious chat about the future, while Caroline (Candice Accola) helped Klaus (Joseph Morgan) with his sticky Silas situation.

We’ll be chatting with Joseph tomorrow, so leave your questions for him in the comments section!

Elena and Rebekah manage to track down Katherine, who’s still hiding the cure. So, Elena dresses as her to meet up with her “friend” who turns out to be none other than Elijah (Daniel Gillies). That’s right – Elijah and Katherine are together! It doesn’t take him long to figure out that it’s actually Elena and she surprises him with the news that his girlfriend killed Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen). He’s visibly upset that Katherine lied and later confronts her about it.

Meanwhile, Stefan and Damon try to get the location of the cure out of a very uncooperative Katherine. She leads them to a fake one, which Damon lets Rebekah take! Even though it didn’t work, Stefan is mad Damon let her have it. They later have a serious discussion about Elena’s future and realize they need to work together to convince her to become human again. But she’s not having it. In fact, she snaps a woman’s neck and threatens to kill more people if they don’t stop trying to “fix” her. Oh, and did we mention Stefan intends to leave town after Elena takes the cure?

Back in Mystic Falls, Klaus is in pain from the White Oak stake that’s in his back. He asks Caroline for her help, but it ends up being Silas. When the real Caroline does show up, she tries to convince him to let Tyler (Michael Trevino) return in exchange for her help. Neither works. It turns out, there was never a stake in his back and Silas was playing mind tricks the whole time. Nevertheless, Caroline and Klaus more or less call a truce.

In the end, Katherine proves her love for Elijah by handing over the cure. Phew! We can’t wait to see what happens next!
