No, “The Originals” isn’t a book tie-in to the upcoming CW show — it’s just this super cool new novel by one of JJJ‘s fave authors, Cat Patrick.
Do you ever imagine how cool it would be to have a clone who could go to school for you while you sleep the day away? Or you have two things you want to go to, but can only go to one because you’re just one person? “The Originals” touches a ton on that subject.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT? 17-year-olds Lizzie, Ella, and Betsey Best grew up as identical triplets…until they discovered a shocking family secret. They’re actually closer than sisters, they’re clones. Hiding from a government agency that would expose them, the Best family appears to consist of a single mother with one daughter named Elizabeth. Lizzie, Ella, and Betsey take turns going to school, attending social engagements, and a group mindset has always been a de facto part of life…
Then Lizzie meets Sean Kelly, a guy who seems to see into her very soul. As their relationship develops, Lizzie realizes that she’s not a carbon copy of her sisters; she’s an individual with unique dreams and desires, and digging deeper into her background, Lizzie begins to dismantle the delicate balance of an unusual family that only science could have created.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: It’s clones, a love pentagon, and a bit of science fiction mixed in. We don’t want to give everything away though, so go pick it up!
HONORABLE MENTIONS: “Icons” by Margaret Stohl, “Towering” by Alex Flinn, “Allies” by S.J. Kincaid, “Parallel” by Lauren Miller, “Truth or Dare” by Jacqueline Green and “Sky on Fire” by Emmy Laybourne.
