JustJaredJr.com Interview – Trevor Jackson
JustJaredJr: So what’s it like having “Drop It” out?
Trevor Jackson: It’s great, man. I love this record. I’m super excited. It’s a really dance-driven record so everybody should just get up and have a good time, you know, put a smile on their faces! We’re getting a good response so far so let’s keep it going!
JJJ: Awesome! Do you have plans for an album?
Trevor: Definitely, early 2014 the album will be coming out. We’ve got some great records so far. Definitely getting some more records, it’s turning out great. It’s really just a dream come true, for sure.
JJJ: Is “Drop It” a good taste of what the album will feel like?
Trevor: Actually, “Drop It” is probably the most, you know, kind of club-y we get. I mean, a lot of them are like slower love songs, there’s mid-tempo, there’s a variety. Definitely something for everybody.”
JJJ: Do you have a favorite song that you’ve recorded yet?
Trevor: Yes, but I can’t say. But, definitely. I love almost every song I’ve recorded, they are all great and near and dear to my heart.
JJJ: Can we expect some cool collaborations?
Trevor: There are definitely some good ones!
JJJ: Are you writing your own songs as well?
Trevor: I am writing some, yes.
JJJ: Do you prefer doing upbeat songs or ballads?
Trevor: Ballads. Just because ballads are more intimate, you know, you get to get a better sense of who I am as a person. I feel like ballads can sink more into the soul. Upbeat records are fun, but if you’re just driving in your car or just chilling with somebody that you like being around, whether it’s a girlfriend or a friend, you just kind of play one of those songs and connect to the song.
JJJ: What’s the concept behind the “Drop It” video?
Trevor: The video is definitely dance-driven. It’s just letting a girl know you’re digging her while you’re dancing with her. That’s how a lot of people meet, you know, at a club or at a house party dancing with a girl. Once you get going you connect a little bit and have a good time!
JJJ: Where was the video filmed?
Trevor: We filmed it in Los Angeles at this really cool warehouse place. It was very cool.
JJJ: Aside from your own song, what’s your favorite song on the radio right now?
Trevor: I like “Stay” from Rihanna, I like Kendrick Lamar’s stuff, I like Drake’s stuff. There’s so many talented people and great music.
JJJ: Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
Trevor: Michael Jackson for sure is the number one musical inspiration. There’s a lot, there’s Ray Charles, Usher, Chris Brown, Stevie Wonder, a lot of people.
JJJ: If you could record with any artist, who would it be?
Trevor: I would have to say Kendrick Lamar or Eminem. Or Drake!
JJJ: And what about touring – which artists would you love to hit the road with?
Trevor: Any of the artists I just said. A$AP Rocky, Nicki Minaj, Trey Songz, there’s a lot of good ones out there.
JJJ: Alright and what about acting – are you just focusing on music for now?
Trevor: I would love to be a part of acting, there’s just not a lot of time for any TV shows to be a regular on because of recording and recording schedules. But if there’s a movie that comes along and it fits and it’s the right time and everything goes accordingly than that would be excellent.
