Sophie N�lisse: 'The Book Thief' at Mill Valley Film Festival 2013

Sophie N�lisse steps out for opening night of the 2013 Mill Valley Film Festival earlier this month in Mill Valley, Calif.

The 13-year-old actress joined her Book Thief co-star Geoffrey Rush and director Brian Percival for the event, which screened their new film.

Based on the book of the same name by Markus Zusak, Liesel Meminger (N�lisse) is a foster girl living outside of Munich, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist�books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement.
