JustJaredJr.com Interview – Zendaya
Just Jared Jr.: We LOVE your outfit! What’s your favorite part of the NFL Teens & Junior line?
Zendaya: I think the main thing is making sports apparel more feminine, especially as teenage girls to have something where we can support our teams and still be cute. We can wear it to school, dress it up, dress it down, it’s more made for us. It’s a little more girly-orientated, so we don’t have to worry about it just being an oversized t-shirt that doesn’t fit us.
JJJ: What’s your best advice for young girls who want to incorporate repping their team into their wardrobe?
Zendaya: I think my number one thing when it comes to repping your team is that it’s so easy to dress it up or dress it down. Sometimes it’s cute if you wear it with a skirt! Like, wear one of the shirts with a skirt. Some of the photos we did for the promotion were with skirts, and then we did pants or shorts. You can wear with your jeans and make it really chill for school, or if there’s some kind of event like a dance you can dress it up with fun accessories. It’s really easy to switch it up!
JJJ: Awesome! Tell us about your favorite sports teams – football, basketball, baseball, etc.
Zendaya: Of course the Jets have been so, so nice to me, especially today. So definitely the Jets! I’m a Raiders fan because, obviously, I’m from Oakland. So, any Oakland team – Raiders, A’s, the Warriors, all that good stuff! I love the Lakers because of Kobe [Bryant] – he’s Kobe! If you don’t like Kobe then we shouldn’t talk.
JJJ: You were incredible on Dancing with the Stars last season – are you rooting for anyone specific this season?
Zendaya: I am always rooting for Val [Chmerkovskiy]. He’s my big brother. I actually visited him about a week ago and brought him a care package of things he’s gonna need to get through the rest of the week. He’s my family!
JJJ: Any advice for young kids and teenagers who want to break into the entertainment industry?
Zendaya: Always make sure you have your priorities straight. Number one is you can’t actually work without having good grades – it’s actually illegal. So, you have to make sure that you maintain your priorities and understand that school is always going to be a number one priority. Once you get your schoolwork done, then you can do what you want to do. But you have to make sure that that is always there, because some people don’t have careers forever. They have to have something else that they can do.
JJJ: You’ve already established yourself as an actress, a singer, and a dancer – what’s next for you?
Zendaya: For me, right now, it’s music. Continuing to do that. There’s lots of things I want to do in the future – Grammy’s, Moon Men, I want all of that! And not just because I want it, it’s cool to say, but it’s a dream. I want to spread the message of positive music. Music that is just as good as everything else but it’s not raunchy, it’s a little more positive and a little more for everyone.
JJJ: Who would you say are some of inspirations in music?
Zendaya: Beyonce is definitely one of them. My number one is Michael Jackson. Those are kind of like, who needs a reason? They are Michael Jackson and Beyonce! I look up to true artists that aren’t afraid to be themselves, that work hard, and are real performers that never settle for less than amazing.
JJJ: What is the most played song on your iPod right now?
Zendaya: Oh man, that’s a tough one! I think for me, I always say I have a crazy playlist. It goes from Luther Vandross to Tupac and then it’ll go back over to Chris Brown, and now it’s Drake. It’s kind of crazy. At the current moment, I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been playing Justin Bieber‘s new song. It’s my jam! I’m not gonna lie, I’ve got Bieber Fever.
