Dylan Sprouse Responds to Joe Jonas' NYMag Essay

Dylan Sprouse Responds to Joe Jonas' NYMag Essay

Dylan Sprouse is just one of the former Disney stars responding to Joe Jonas recent essay in NYMag.

Check out what the 21-year-old actor/student wrote on his Tumblr:

“I read the article and I have a couple things to say. Most formally the idea that Disney and the corporations ‘gentrified them.’ First, I think it’s bullshit that they were being robbed of choice or creativity. If they wanted too, they could have told Disney ‘NO’.

Cole and I did this hundreds of times and we ended up all right. The only reason they didn’t is because, like many of the people on that channel, I think they fell for the allure of fame. Granted, Cole and I had been acting our entire lives, so we saw it as a means to an end (money making) rather than an opportunity to become successful.

“Nowadays artists just assume they have to do what they are told by their proprietors because there is a ‘rigid structure to achievement’. It is nothing more than a scheme to rob you of your individuality and capitalize the gain they acquire from such treachery. If you believe this, not only are you incredibly foolish, but you are a BAD ARTIST. Individuality is modernity’s most interesting trait regarding artwork and so so many talented individuals realize this. You do not have to become something else to be successful. Not only is it not too late for them to redefine themselves now, it was never too late.

“What that article felt like was: ‘Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, still shame on you.’ My personal creed? ‘Fool me once, you’ll forever regret that decision.’”

WHAT DO YOU THINK about Dylan’s response?

    i agree

I just became a Dylan Spouse fan. Finally, someone that doesn’t blame Disney for anything. This guy has a good head on his shoulders.

  • Lizzy

Dylan is 100% right what can i say…more young celebs should be like him and his bro Cole.

  • Mia

Exactly what I was saying. So many people of these singers and actors try and put the blame all on Disney when they leave, but they never mention the fact that it was also partially their all fault. They could have just said no. Dylan and Cole were even younger than the Jonas Brothers when they got into Disney and when they left, but they never seemed to let Disney take advantage of them. They seem to have a good head o their shoulders and I hope they get back into acting when they’re ready.

Dyaln Sprouse <3 totally right! 100% Couldn't agree more!

  • Kay

Yes, I agree with Dylan completely! Everyone has choices. Joe didn’t have to be a part of Disney if he didn’t want to.

    I agree

  • Emi

I agree with Dylan, but I also understand where Joe is coming from. I think, as they were all so young when they were part of Disney , that of course a lot of pressure was put on their shoulders and that’s where their parents have a huge role and most of the parents of this child stars are more interesting in making money than any other thing and and I think Joe made pretty clear that he’s a bit “mad” with his dad because he almost trough him on all the fame thing. Anyways, Dylan is right about Disney not having all the fault on this…

  • AnA

    I fully agree with him.

  • leah

yes dylan!! joe should have left disney if he didn’t agree with them. come on, they signed up for JONAS and they really didn’t have to. they already had a big fanbase before the show. They could have left and done whatever they wanted from there.
hate when celebs hate on disney after they’ve left.

Joe Jonas is a d-bag, he and his brother Nick both sicken me. Now Joe Jonas is saying he wants to make a movie about a man who becomes a woman, that wants to have a baby. Well Joe you are half way there, we all know your boyfriend Blanda is a transsexual. So he/she could get the staring role.

  • Mll

Couldn’t agree more. You have to give credit to Dylan who is out getting an education rather than partying and vacationing all the time like Joe.

  • nana

I agree I agree, I think the most important word here is “BAD ARTIST” because you don’t always have to do what they tell you to do and on top of that if your music was any GOOD then all this gossip wouldn’t be talking about in the first place. PEOPLE this is what is happening when artists cant sell they date part and sell gossip which is what joe is doing. if you had talent you would shut up and put your d*** on the table. you don’t see the marrying brother saying anything why? cause he has a like, the young one might be a tool but at least he has talent to back it up and has a movie coming out hes fighting his way in but what are you doing? gossip why? cause you ain’t got it. some people were not meant to be in the spotlight, they were dragged by accident.

  • nana

what joe is forgetting a lot of people left Disney and found success so???? whats your excuse, zac efron doesn’t have big success but hes working his way up. a lot of people forget shia was part of even stevens, yes hes a douche but hes successful, Justin timberlake, Brittney spears even ryan gosling

  • tehe

i totally agree with him! Everyone forgets that they are only “famous” because of disney, they should be grateful.

    they caused their own problems

  • Danika

Dylan is so right. Joe’s just blaming Disney because he and along with the other brothers screwed up wanting to end Jonas Brothers. If they had continued, yes, they wouldn’t be as famous as they were UNDER DISNEY but they would still have a career. The main problem was when they decided to go under hiatus for so long. People forgot about them. I would capitalize on my popularity. Kinda like how Justin Bieber is doing. He knows in a couple years, he’s going to be dunzo so he’s touring for extended periods of time, making music and gaining money for that. The Jo Bros made a BAD decision and blaming Disney is just damage control.

  • bob sassaman

I knew there was bad blood between the sprouse’s and Disney, and it finally came out why. they made the right decision.
