JustJaredJr.com Interview – Arden Cho
JustJaredJr.com: Hi Arden! So what was it like coming on to such a successful show three seasons in? That has to be exciting and a little scary, no?
Arden Cho: It’s really exciting because you already know it’s a big show and everybody loves it. Everybody already knows what’s happening. But it’s also really intimidating and scary at the same time, because it is a show that does so well, there are a lot of expectations. You have to be up to par with everybody else. I think the cast is just amazing and so talented – beautiful and talented (laughs). I think I was really scared initially. I was always telling my friends, it took me at least seven or eight episodes to start feeling kind of comfortable. Because as much as I love everybody and they’re all so welcoming, as an actor, it’s hard to really let loose and be who you are when you’re new. It’s funny because in the show I’m the new girl and on set I’m the new girl. It’s definitely been exciting.
JJJ: When we first meet Kira, she’s not exactly welcomed with open arms. Is it going to take a little while for everyone to warm up to her?
AC: She’s a little quirky (laughs). She doesn’t mean any harm and she doesn’t mean to be rude and butt in, but I think she’s just excited. She’s very curious and she wants to fit it. And sometimes people aren’t really ready for that.
JJJ: Especially with all the supernatural craziness going on in Beacon Hills.
AC: Exactly. Unfortunately, Kira just has no idea what’s really happening in Beacon Hills.
JJJ: She seems very smart though. Should we keep our eye on her? Does she know more than she’s letting on?
AC: Kira definitely has interest in a lot of the Asian mythology and is interested in what she hears the gang talking about, but she doesn’t really know. She knows what she knows from reading books and doing research, but when it comes down to it, what the guys are going through, she has no idea. It’s going to be very interesting and scary for her.
JJJ: We hear there may be a little spark between Scott and Kira…
AC: He is definitely nice to her and welcomes her a little bit. Scott’s the Alpha, so hopefully him taking a liking to her will welcome her to the group as well. But we’ll see what happens there.
JJJ: Allison and Scott are over, for now anyway. The fans kind of gave her a hard time these past few seasons. Do you see that happening with Kira?
AC: Even myself as a Teen Wolf fan watching, I love Allison. She’s beautiful, she’s amazing, and it’s heartbreaking with everything she’s been through, but I think it’s one of those things that…it doesn’t always work out with your first love. And sometimes maybe it does later. We don’t really know. Scott and Kira are getting to know each other, but it’s still very new. We don’t know for sure what’s going to happen there.
JJJ: Well, either way, we think it’s good they are both moving on, and we’re excited to see Allison’s reaction to Kira!
AC: I don’t know what I can say about that. I think the one thing I do know for sure is that [Scott and Allison] both want each other to be happy. They both have a special place for each other. They’re very mature about it. And I think because there’s so much happening that’s life-threatening than romance right now, it’s a little OK (laughs). But we still find time for love and romance, and all the fun, good stuff in the midst of all the chaos. I think Kira and Allison, they’re cool. I think they’re both tough chicks who in the end, want the same thing.
JJJ: This show has so many physical elements. Have you gotten to do some stunts?
AC: Oh yeah, definitely. Kira has some fun. She gets to join the boys’ club and really jump right into it. Kind of by accident, initially. It’s fun and you’re going to see it all unravel. I hope that the fans will enjoy seeing that because it was really exciting for me. I didn’t know what to expect with this character.
JJJ: What have been some of your favorite on-set moments so far?
AC: So many. Almost every day there’s something crazy that we shoot. I don’t want to give any spoilers!
JJJ: We saw on Twitter that the cast has dance parties?
AC: Oh yeah, that’s like every other day. Some kind of dance party. Or Dylan [O'Brien] and Tyler will be singing, or beat-boxing, or rapping. Just doing something hilarious. I really wish we could have a side camera on set because the fans would just die with how adorable everyone is. That’s the one thing, everyone on set is so fun and goofy. That’s what I love. There’s no real divas, or divos (laughs). Everyone just has fun and even though we’re tired and delirious, I think that just results in more fun.
JJJ: As a fan of the show, I’m sure you know that new characters tend to end up dead. We hope Kira sticks around for a while!
AC: It’s dangerous! When teens are fighting werewolves and monsters, things are going to happen and not everyone is going to make it. But you know, this season we’re going to try really hard to make sure everyone does (laughs).
