Luke Benward: 'Ravenswood' Finale Will Leave You Wanting More (Interview)

We were left shocked and speechless after last week’s Ravenswood when we finally found out some of Dillon’s (Luke Benward) secrets, but we have a feeling more questions will arise during tonight’s season finale.

We caught up with the 18-year-old actor to talk about Dillon’s feelings for Olivia (Merritt Patterson), his mysterious relationship with Collins (Steven Cabral), and of course, his reactions to the #DontTrustDillon fans on Twitter.

The Ravenswood season finale airs TONIGHT, February 4 @ 9/8c on ABC Family!

JustJaredJr: We’ve been slowly finding out more about Dillon’s past. How much did you know about him going into the role?

Luke Benward: When I went in for the role, they told me he was the charming boy-next-door and “the perfect boyfriend,” but that he had a twist coming up. They didn’t say what that twist would be, but I knew to expect something. It was a shock to see how far they took it, though.

JJJ: It seemed like Dillon really cared for Olivia, but he sold her out! Do you think his feelings for her were ever real? Is it possible he has a bigger plan at play?

LB: For sure! I think that, without a doubt, there were and still are real feelings there, because if there weren’t, the sacrifice really wouldn’t be worth much to Dillon. I feel like he had to really give up something special to him in order to survive.

JJJ: We saw Collins yelling at Dillon in a car, so obviously something is going on with them. What can you tell us about their interactions in the finale?

LB: The finale is a GREAT one. Y’all are in for a wild ride. There are more answers about Dillon and Collins and their involvement in the whole curse.

JJJ: What’s your favorite part about playing a darker, mysterious character?

LB: I love it! For me, acting is such a passion and playing many different characters is such a dream for me that the contrast between Will Cloud from Cloud 9 and Dillon from Ravenswood is just such a blast. I love Dillon because he is so complex and so mysterious, that it leaves a lot of room for imagination and creativity.

JJJ: If you could give any character on the show advice, who would it be and what would you tell them?

LB: It would be Springer and I’d tell him to look both ways before he crosses the street next time! Haha!

JJJ: LOL! Fans were tweeting with the hashtag #DontTrustDillon. Did you read any of the tweets? Any favorite fan reactions?

LB: Yes! Amazing! I was actually doing the live Twitter chat with fans at that time, so I got to read many reactions and they’re always so funny. It’s always hilarious how personal people take things that happen in shows. It makes me laugh. They’re genuinely hurt that I’m lying to Olivia! It always makes me chuckle.

JJJ: What was it like having Ashley Benson back on set, and what can you tell us about the reason behind Hanna’s return?

LB: It was great to meet her! She’s a super sweet girl. Unfortunately, we didn’t have any scenes together so it was a “hi and bye,” but she’s very talented and nice. I mean, I think the return behind Hanna is pretty self-explanatory… Caleb. Haha!

JJJ: What’s been your favorite memory from filming this first season?

LB: Honestly, probably the car I got to drive. Not only is it a gorgeous and extremely manly-feeling car, but it was also the first time I had ever driven stick shift and they had to teach me the morning before, so once I got into the scene it was horribly embarrassing. I was grinding gears and the engine kept shutting off. It didn’t take too long to get the hang of it, though, thank God.

JJJ: Cool! Sum up the season finale for us in a few words.

LB: It will leave you wanting more.
