Lorde: 'I Never Want To Tell Anyone How They Should Be'

Lorde wears a crown of daisies on her head in her new feature for Vogue mag.

The 17-year-old singer chatted about her fashion loves, becoming a role model and more. Check it:

On her fashion idols: “People like Grace Jones and David Bowie, who have such a sense of themselves. The kind of clothes that I’ve found I like to wear over the past year and six months have all been things that make me feel powerful and strong,” she says. “I wear a lot of pants. I wear a lot of long, structured dresses.”

On her young fan base: “It’s a fine line between being a role model and preaching to people. I never want to tell anyone how they should be, especially not someone my age. But, that being said, I’m conscious of the fact that people my age are reading what I say and listening to what I say, and that’s cool—particularly for the girls who are into what I do.”

On the music she’s writing now: “I definitely love writing pop music, but in terms of structure and formula—you know it, and then you know it. I’m probably always going to return to that kind of structure, but it’s nice to branch out a bit. I’ve been writing traditional pop songs, and recording them, and then making the instrumental equivalent—I’m just mucking around with stuff.”

Vogue‘s March issue is on newsstands nationwide Tuesday, February 25th.
