No, there were no medals for the U.S. Ladie’s Figure Skating team at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics — but that’s okay.
“When I went down on it [the triple flip], I thought, ‘Dang it! That’s what [coach] Frank Carroll told me not to do: ‘Don’t drop that right arm.’ I went down on the triple flip but, at the end of the day, skating these three program at the Olympics was wonderful,” Gracie shared after her program.
She added, “When I ended up fourth after the short, I thought the pressure was lifted off. I was only six points from a medal after the short. But if I wasn’t going to get a medal, I wanted to skate for myself.”
Ashley, who placed 7th overall, said about bringing back her Samson & Delilah long program: “That was such a solid performance. I think that was a mentally tough one for me because I had two so-so long program that were backing me up. So the first program of the season, a personal best, I can’t complain and it makes me look forward to the worlds…I put out three clean program and I can go home holding my head high. I’m ecstatic.”
“I’d love to come back to the Olympics,” Polina shared, after her first senior level international event. “That’s four years from now and I know I have to keep building up my strength.”
