Ashley Wagner Gets Crowned on 'Bethenney' Before Attending Oscars 2014 with Adam Rippon

Ashley Wagner glistens in gold with BFF and fellow skater Adam Rippon at the 2014 Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday evening (March 2) in Hollywood.

Just the week before, the 22-year-old Olympian was in New York City after her return from the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and stopped by Bethenny where she discussed her now imfamous reaction to her short skate in the Team event and more.

“I was a bit surprised [about the scores],” Ashley admitted. “I mean the last thing I want to come off as is sour grapes cause you know what? I was so stoked about that performance and I thought I kicked ass, I was beyond excited about it and then I got the scores that I wasn’t exactly thrilled about but you know what? At the end of the day I’m coming home with a medal so I can’t complain.”

Ashley added about the controversy surrounding the scoring system: “I’m not saying I should have won, it’s not fair, I’m not throwing a hissy fit; I’m saying you know what, we have a system that is really not all that clear to people who are watching, it’s not all that clear to the athletes. I want to be able to improve upon my performances and if I don’t have a system in which I can look at a sheet and say ‘Ok, that’s where I lost points there’ and ‘that’s where I lost points there’, then how am I supposed to get any better if I see that girls are tumbling in front of me and ending up above me, it’s confusing and I want to be able to push this sport forward.”

um…Ashley – you KNOW you can look at your scores and see where you lost points. You also know that if Yulia or Adelina or Yuna or Gracie even fall that they are scoring much higher than you on other elements – triple triples gorgeous spins, footwork – YOU KNOW THIS! Yulia can probably fall 3 times and still beat you – accept it – it is not you who will move the sport forward – it is someone like Yuna, Yulia, maybe Polina or Gracie – it was Kwan in her day – to some extent Sasha – even Sara Hughes who pushed the technical – I am not saying Ashley is not a lovely skater and top 10 in the world – she is – she has had her best years and has two national titles and a few grand prix wins (she did not complain about her scores in those days!) so accept it and MOVE ON!
