Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu Defends Olympic Title; Wins Mens Title at Worlds 2014

Yuzuru Hanyu raises his arms over his head in victory after hearing his leader-board topping score after the free skate during the 2014 ISU World Figure Skating Championships held at Saitama Super Arena on Friday (March 28) in Saitama, Japan.

The 19-year-old defending Olympic gold medalist edged out his teammate Tatsuki Machida for the top spot.

Spain’s Javier Fernandez won bronze with Russia’s Maxim Kovtun in 4th and USA’s Jeremy Abbott in 5th.

“I felt so glad,” Yuzuru shared with press after his skate. “There was a mistake in the short programme so that is why my overall score ended up as it is. Overall I did enjoy this competition. I would like to go back and practice more. I felt the responsibility to win this event.”

Congrats, Yuzuru!
