Italia Ricci: 'Chasing Life Character April Is A Hero'

There are just a few weeks left until we see Italia Ricci‘s new ABC Family show, Chasing Life.

During a recent trip to New York City, the 27-year-old actress stopped by InStyle to talk about transforming into April, a young reporter who is diagnosed with leukemia. Check out what she had to share:

On trading in court for the small screen: “I was in law school before I became an actress. I was planning to pursue corporate and entertainment law because I loved the industry—acting was a risk that I didn’t initially have the guts to pursue. I was an extra in a movie in my hometown and it ended up snowballing from there.”

On her shopping habits: “I’m a total Maxxinista. TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Nordstrom Rack—take me there and I’m gone for hours. My closet is maxi dresses galore but tomorrow is an exciting day. I’m buying my first Chanel handbag while I’m in New York.”

On Chasing Life: “Going home and leaving my character, April, behind at the end of the day is something I’ve struggled with, but it’s such an important story to tell and the writers are able to make you laugh along the way—the plot is relatable no matter who you are.”

On fan mail: “[I get] About 100 different letters, Facebook messages and tweets come through each day. I think the show’s execs are a little worried I’ll wear myself out, but I can’t not respond—my character is a hero.”
