During the Maleficent press conference, Elle spoke about bringing her Princess Aurora to life in the film.
“I think in the original animated version of Sleeping Beauty, Aurora is definitely kind of a delicate princess and loves all things, everything you think a princess is, all those characteristics she definitely has,” she shared. “But in ours she is still that way, she loves everyone and is very open…but it’s nice for Aurora in this film, she has more depth… It’s nice that I could bring more layers to her and have more strength than just the pretty, pretty princess who is in the original Sleeping Beauty.”
Elle added, “With the film the Princess needed to have more layers and a bit more substance because she just frolics around in a lot of the [first] film and sleeps. In this one I definitely sleep but I definitely have more scenes and Linda [Woolverton, writer] wrote those scenes where I actually get to do more.”
