'Frankenstein, MD': New Web Series Coming From PBS & Pemberly Digital

The team who brought you the best web series ever, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, are leaving Jane Austin behind, and taking on Mary Shelley.

Announced earlier this month, Pemberly Digital is partnering up with PBS for Frankenstein, M.D., for a web-series adaption of the famed book, “Frankenstein”.

The series will re-imagine the classic tale with Victoria Frankenstein, an obsessive, eccentric prodigy determined to prove herself in the male-dominated fields of science and medicine. There will be eight episodes each month starting later this year.

And just like The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and Emma Approved, viewers can follow Victoria’s trials and experiments on her YouTube channel and various social media platforms.

A new team of writers approached Pemberley Digital with the concept in mid-2013. Intrigued by their fresh voice and original take on the story – which will include ongoing research and insight from a medical professional – executive producer Bernie Su worked with them to develop the series. PBS Digital Studios partnered with us to back the project and bring the story to light.

Executive producer Bernie Su shared in a statement, “The team at Pemberley Digital is thrilled to be working with PBS Digital Studios on this exciting new adaptation of Mary Shelley’s cult classic, reimagined for today’s connected generation. We’re eager to take the format that we’ve cultivated with our previous multiplatform series into a new genre with a darker tone.”
