Olympian Skaters Jeremy Abbott & Jason Brown Sit 2nd, 3rd After Short Program at Skate America 2014
Jeremy Abbott and Jason Brown show off their new short programs on the ice during the Men’s Short Program at the 2014 Hilton HHonors Skate America held at the Sears Centre Arena on Friday night (October 24) in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
The 29-year-old figure skater and Jason, 19, are sitting at second and third place, just after Japan’s Tatsuki Machida.
Jeremy skated to Sam Smith‘s “Lay Me Down” for his short, and earned 81.82 points, putting him in second place.
“I like [skating to] the lyrics — it makes me feel more at home,” Jeremy shared. “I did the program myself, so it feels second nature even though it’s brand new. It was a solid skate with just a little bobble on the triple Axel; it got a little outside. I can really see all of the work we have been putting in at home and it’s been paying off.”
Jason, skated to Little Walters’ “Juke” for his new program, and earned 79.75 points.
“I wish I would have had a better start, but I’m happy with the way I recovered,” Jason shared afterwards. “I made sure to get every last point I could get by doing what I did. In that sense, I’m really happy. I kept the integrity of the program and pushed through.”
Jeremy and Jason will both skate their free program tonight.
