R5 Talk 'Smile', Album Release Dates, Inspiration & 'Austin & Ally'

Truth time — we still can’t get R5‘s new song, “Smile” out of our minds.

In a recent interview with our pals at Teen.com, the band — Ellington Ratliff, Ross, Riker, Rocky, and Rydel Lynch — opened up about the inspiration for the video and song, their fans and more. Check it:

Ross on Austin & Ally: “I think every season has been good. Everything has been great. I don’t think there’s a season that sort of stands out more than others, but every season just gets better and we grow as actors, and as sitcom actors, which is completely different than any other style of acting I’ve ever done. I just think it’s good because we all grow. Right now, we’re on Episode 5. There’s a big change coming, as far as “Sonic Boom”… Well, just, there’s a big change coming up in Season Four!”

Rydel on the band’s EPs: “Yeah, kind of like, ‘Here’s a little thing,’ because then they’re… although, an album, sometimes you have to wait two years for an album, so it’s kind of like, ‘Here’s a little treat, thanks for being so patient with us.’”

Riker on the inspiration: “That’s really all it is; it’s as simple as that. It’s like, ‘I’ll blow all my cash on you to make you smile.’ Metaphorically, you know, it’s I just, ‘kinda wanna cheer you up.’ Like, ‘when it rains, I’ll turn your skies blue.’ The main line of the song is, ‘I’ll run down your street naked just to get your attention’ kind of thing, so it’s all, a little bit like that. It’s very playful and very much just like, ‘I wanna see you smile.’ This song specifically is very much my personality. I’m very much all about having a good time and making sure everybody else is having a good time.”

And just in case you haven’t seen the official video, then watch!
