Kevin McHale Gets Candid About the 'Glee' Cancellation

Kevin McHale is opening up in a candid new interview on why he thinks Glee lost its viewers and why there shouldn’t be a spinoff series.

“I will say, not to bring it down or anything, when Cory Monteith died. I don’t think the show ever came back from that,” the 26-year-old actor told The Huffington Post. “It wasn’t for a lack of trying, but the story was going in one direction with his character [Finn Hudson] and he was one of two main characters of the show.”

“I think after that the vibe on set was different,” he added. “It was just weird for us being there never mind actually having to be filming. Being one of the writers in that sort of situation — I wouldn’t have known what I would have done because I was like, ‘I don’t really even want to be here.’”

When asked if he thinks Artie should get a spinoff, Kevin said, “Towards the end, there weren’t that many people watching Glee. So I don’t know how many people would then watch a spinoff. We’re off the air for a reason.”

Could it be that the topics on the show started out somewhat “family” friendly at the beginning, but by the second and third seasons the show became so Progressive and immoral, that parents stopped allowing their kids to watch the show?

I know that’s what happened in our house!

Oh you mean how it was so inclusive and represented all kinds of lovely people from groups who are often oppressed and victimised…… I would have thought the greatest thing would be to expose kids to that so they grow up to be caring and compassionate adults. But that’s just me. I think it lost ratings because the characters & actors were getting older so the original premise was drifting away & they didn’t really have anywhere fresh to go with it.

Best thing about the final couple of seasons was the introduction of Starchild. Pity they didn’t use that character more!
