Vanessa Marano & Katie Leclerc Talk New Season Of 'Switched Of Birth' Ahead Of Premiere Tonight

Tonight is the night! Switched at Birth finally returns to our television screens and JJJ can not wait!

Stars Vanessa Marano and Katie Leclerc both spoke to press about the upcoming season and what to expect.

“[The breakup] was rough. It was really rough. It was unfair and she’s upset about it. She’s a freaking mess. The Bay and Emmett fans are going to be heartbroken, but not disappointed,” Vanessa dished to Zap2it. “She’s a mess [for a while]. Finally she’s like, ‘I’m going to take back my life and do things for me.’ That’s what this season is about for Bay – taking back her own life.”

She added, “The breakup with Emmett, the sexual assault – none of that stuff is going away just because she’s like ‘OK, I’m going to get through this. That is stuff she will always have to deal with and hopefully be a stronger person in spite of it.”

“There’s a scene that I have not yet seen and I believe it starts the episode. I think it’s the first scene in the episode. I’m not in the scene, so it’s just Vanessa and it’s the many versions of Bay and she’s having a mental crack. I think it’ll be really Orphan Black-ish,” Katie teased. “It’ll be really cool to see how the editors do it and how the many versions of Bay are very different. We can really see how Bay has changed over the last few months as well. I believe that’s the first scene in the episode, but I can’t be quite sure but I know it’s very early on.”

So what about their sisterhood?

“They are at a point now where it doesn’t matter if they disagree or if other people try to get between them,” Vanessa shared. “They are family first, sisters first. They are at a point now where they are doing life together.”

“The heart of the show has always been Bay and Daphne and when Daphne had her downward spiral, her family really jumped in and saved the day for Daphne in a huge way,” Katie added. “I think Daphne is still feeling guilt from that and sometimes guilt is bad and sometimes guilt is a huge motivator. So for Daphne, having so much at stake and having her family really risk their livelihood for her, it puts her in a place where she is highly motivated for school and to become a doctor.”

Switched At Birth is back TONIGHT, Monday, August 24th @ 8PM ET/PT on ABC Family.
