Twitter Announces You Can't Favorite Tweets Anymore, Institutes 'Like' Feature

People are sort of freaking out over an announcement that was just made on Twitter…the social media site will be instituting “likes” instead of “favorites” with a heart icon to replace the star.

The news was announced via the Twitter blog, and fans immediately began commenting. “We are changing our star icon for favorites to a heart and we’ll be calling them likes. We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use, and we know that at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers. You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favorite,” the Twitter blog announced.

“The heart, in contrast, is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones. The heart is more expressive, enabling you to convey a range of emotions and easily connect with people. And in our tests, we found that people loved it,” the blog post continued. They also announced the news in a video, which you can watch below.

Fans did not seem too receptive to the idea, adding comments such as, “Can we talk about this for a second?,” “nooooooooooooooo this is awful,” “this absolutely reeks of panic FYI,” and “but not everything we “favorite” we “like”. Sometimes it’s just like bookmark-ing a tweet. Oh well, I’ll miss the star.”

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION on the heart vs. the star??
