Oh, and did we mention The Vamps just released their second album, Wake Up, which is now available on iTunes? Get on that!
JustJaredJr.com: What made you want to do a vlog in the first place?
James McVey: I am lucky enough to travel around the world and meet lots of amazing people, however, sometimes I don’t think that I’m able to really capture everything I see through pictures. Therefore, I decided to take a video camera around and film some of the things I had been doing. I have also started to speak more about certain areas that I can really relate to – acne and skin care are two areas in which I feel I may be able to contribute through my vlogging.
JJJ: What kinds of topics will you cover and how do you choose them?
JM: My YouTube channel is relatively new, so I’m still trying to get a grip on exactly what I want to be covering. That said, I have chosen a few areas that I am really passionate about (acne, bullying, positivity). I feel that I have experience in these topics, being an acne sufferer for 10 years, and hope that I am able to maybe help some of the people watching. As well as the main topics, I have started experimenting in different regions of the YouTube world. I tend to video anything exciting I may be doing around the world, such as hiking, sightseeing, etc., and I have recently started a “Shock Ball Series” with other YouTubers/celebrities.

JJJ: What would you say was your biggest struggle growing up and how did you overcome that?
JM: Growing up, I would say that dealing with acne on a daily basis was the most challenging thing to deal with. Acne pretty much destroyed any self-esteem I had, and gradually reduced me to a very under-confident person who struggled greatly within the school and social environment. Acne was something that took me years to address properly – I tried every sort of medication and remedy – and this is why I think I may be able to help others who suffer from acne like I did.
JJJ: What advice would you give fans going through a hard time (whether in school, personal life, or work)?
JM: I made a video called “Beating Back-To-School Blues” where I discuss how I think is best to try and tackle that horrible feeling you get the week before starting your new school year after the long summer holidays. I always remember feeling extremely nervous and “on edge” in the run-up to this new year’s start, and I thought I would try and share with the world how I think you could curve these nerves into a challenge. It’s never simply to comment on someone going through a hard time without knowing the source of their discomfort. However, I have made a video on bullying in the school place, and I’m starting to put up a few videos that discuss how to stay positive. Staying positive is a serious thing, and I think sometimes teenagers can be overlooked by others and be labelled as “teenager’s experiencing hormones.” My goal is to make sure that these people aren’t simply “labelled and left” – we need to ensure that people around us are being loved and looked after.
JJJ: Amazing! And of course, we have to ask about the new album now that it’s out! What can fans expect and what is your favorite song off Wake Up?
JM: WE CAN NOT WAIT! This album is one that we are honestly so proud to release. We have been working on this record for about a year now, and we hope that fans enjoy listened to it as much as we did making it. We have been influenced by 80s style music. We loved Taylor Swift‘s 1989 album, as well as other bands such as MGMT and Imagine Dragons. My personal favorite off the album is a song called “Cheater,” because I absolutely love playing it live and it appears to have become a “fan favorite” track.
