Dove Cameron and Ryan McCartan are just about the cutest couple in the entire world, so JJJ couldn’t think of two better people to educate everyone on the Do’s & Don’ts of Valentine’s Day.

The Girl and the Dreamcatcher duo laid out a couple ‘must do’s and ‘don’t touch those things with a 10 foot pole’ rules ahead of the romantic holiday this weekend. Check it:

Dove says… DON’T make the day about anyone but you

Dear single people of the world: Too often I see people taking to social media to express how sad they are that they “don’t have a valentine this year,” and they can’t wait until next year when they potentially will. Or even worse, I see single people raining on the parades of happy couples who do have a valentine. LOVES: YOU ARE COMPLETE WITHIN YOURSELF. You do NOT need a valentine to validate your existence. Date yourself! After all, taken or not, you are the most important person in your life.

Ryan says… DON’T try too hard

It’s hard to impress your date. I get it. But if you try to get TOO creative, you might come off as either obsessive or weird or, worst of all, your “really cool idea” might only be really cool in your head. Not like I know from experience or anything… If you’re stuck, just stick with the basics. They’ll appreciate the effort. PS if you’re feeling adventurous cook them a meal. Its adorbz and they’ll alway like it… as long as it’s at LEAST a B-

Dove says… DO your own thing

If you’re like us, you are normal humans walking around in the world. Not a movie from the 90′s. You don’t have to do what all your friends are doing or what you think one SHOULD do on Valentine’s Day. Ryan and I have a tradition of going to an aquarium on Valentine’s Day. It’s not typical, but it’s us! Being weird together is what love is all about!

Ryan says… DO get her flowers

You’re not being unoriginal. It’s an amazingly romantic gesture. But don’t be stupid about it. Text her mom or her sister or her friend and make sure you KNOW what her favorite flower is.

Dove says… DON’T be self-conscious

*note, this one is mostly aimed at the ladies. Making sure you have the best outfit and spending two hours doing your hair and make-up can sometimes be fun, but don’t put so much pressure on the night being perfect that you forget what the night is ACTUALLY about: You and your date.

Ryan says… DO be conscious

*note, this one is mostly aimed at the gentlemen. Guys, forget what Dove just said. You better dress your best. You better pull the seat out for her. You better tell her she looks pretty. It’s Valentine’s Day. Make sure the night is perfect, and don’t forget what the night is ACTUALLY about: Your date.
