Freeform Developing New Series Based on Russia's Grand Duchess Anastasia

Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova is coming back to life again — on Freeform.

Deadline reports that the network is developing a series from McG based on the once thought missing Grand Duchess.

The series will be set in vibrant Paris during the roaring 1920′s, and follows Anastasia after her escape from Communist Russia. While her sights are set on avenging the death of her family, she joins forces with an elite espionage agency that’s working to prevent another world war.

By day, Anastasia is a former princess trying to blend into a normal life, but by night, she’s acting as the world’s first female spy, influencing some of the biggest events in the first part of the 20th century.

In reality, Anastasia was killed at age 17, along with her sisters Olga, Tatiana, and Maria, brother Alexei and parents Nicholas II and Alexandra during the Bolshevik revolution in 1917. After investigators could not locate her body, it was rumored that she had escaped and survived, with a number of young women coming forward, claiming to be her.

However, Anastasia was one of the bodies discovered. Maria‘s body was recovered from another location.
