Mason Cook Joins ABC Pilot 'Speechless'

Mason Cook has joined the upcoming ABC pilot, Speechless.

The 15-year-old actor, who you may recognize from Spy Kids: All the Time in the World and The Haunting Hour, will play Ray Dimeo, the youngest of three sons in the show.

Ray is described as “anxious, very smart, loves astronomy. Ray supports his mother as she struggles and tilts at windmills; he just wishes she could bust a few fewer asses along the way.”

And despite his sensitivity to his brother, JJ’s, needs, he tires of the endless search for the perfect school. Quite certain he’s always right, Ray views himself as “the only adult in the family” an assertion to which the actual adults who birthed him sometimes object.

Speechless centers on parents Maya and Jimmy, and their sons Ray, Ethan and JJ; the latter being a kid with special needs who is non-verbal, though his written communications are smart, wickedly funny and occasionally unprintable.

Close but chaotic, the family exists in a chronic whirlwind created by mom Maya, an outspoken (to put it mildly) woman who’ll do anything to give JJ a better shot at what he needs. But she’s got two other kids — not to mention an adoring husband — who have needs, too.
