Jenna Ortega Recalls The Weird Way Social Media Jumpstarted Her Acting Career

Jenna Ortega keeps it cute in a blue dress in her new feature in the August 2016 issue of NKD mag.

The 14-year-old Stuck in The Middle actress opened up about the show, social media and more. Check it:

On how social media got her where she is today: “When I told my mom that I wanted to be an actress, she kind of just left it alone because she assumed it was just another phase of mine. Two years later, I was still bugging her about it and so she realized it was something I really wanted to do. She got me a monologue book and I did a dramatic reading for her where I was crying and had all these tears running down my face. She uploaded the video on her Facebook page and a casting director saw it andsigned me up with an agency. So, basically, social media got me my start.”

On Stuck In The Middle: “Being on set with so many kids is really a blast. I’m surrounded by so many different personalities and they all kind of remind me of my own siblings so I feel like the cast is my second family. I love being with them everyday!”

On loving the Diaz family: “Being apart of this big Latina cast, for me, is a dream come true. When I was younger, I couldn’t really relate to a lot of Disney characters because I felt like they weren’t really like me. I did, however, relate to Alex Russo of Wizards of Waverly Place; that was definitely my favorite show to watch. Now, to be apart of a show that younger Latinas can watch and feel connected and represented, makes me very happy!”
