Shailene Woodley is led to a police car in handcuffs after being arrested during a peaceful protest on Monday (October 10) in North Dakota.
The 24-year-old Divergent actress was arrested for criminal trespassing while protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline with hundreds of other people, but she was singled out by the authorities during the arrest.
Shailene filmed the whole protest and arrest for Facebook Live and you can watch the video below.
“I don’t know if you guys just heard me, but I was walking back to my RV, which is right there, so that we can go back to camp peacefully and they grabbed me by my jacket and they said that I was not allowed to continue, and they had giant guns and batons and zip ties and they’re not letting me go,” Shailene says near the end of the video. She was told she is the only one being arrested as she was the only one “identified.”
“Alright, I’m being arrested… because I was trespassing like everyone. But as soon as you guys asked me to leave, I left. She was down there, everybody was down there,” Shailene continued. “I’m being arrested. I was down there with everybody else. I don’t know what’s going on. As soon as they came, I left. It’s because I’m well known. It’s because I have 40,000 people watching.”
“So everybody knows, we were going to our vehicle, which they had all surrounded and waiting for me with giant guns and a giant truck behind them just so they could arrest me. I hope you’re watching mainstream media,” Shai says before she is taken away by police.
Fast forward to the 2:00:00 mark to see Shai‘s interaction with police and her arrest.
