Alessia Cara keeps it casual during her performance at Radio Station Hits 97.3 on Wednesday (October 26) in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
In a recent interview, the 20-year-old “Here” singer opened up about her best songwriting tips.
“Now that I’ve been [writing] for a while, I’m always thinking, ‘How can I turn this situation into a song?’” Alessia told The Tennessean. “It’s so awesome to be able to do that. I think we kind of overthink things sometimes, but you literally can write a song out of anything that you want to.”
“That’s the beauty of [songwriting], being able to take real-life experiences, and figuring out how to make them into an artistic story,” she went on. “With me, I’ve found that the concept [for a song] usually comes first: a phrase, a sentence or a word or something small that turns into something bigger.”
Alessia also revealed how it felt when she pranked Coldplay on her last day of touring with them!
“It was my idea,” she said, explaining how she put on a giant teddy bear costume and laid motionless on the floor until the band came over. “We were kind of doing it to each other in our own little crew. I was scaring a bunch of people in my band. Then I thought, ‘Well, since we’re on tour with Coldplay, I think it’d be a great idea or a horrible idea to try and scare them.’ I stayed in the costume for what felt like 45 minutes, and I actually got them, which was amazing. And I couldn’t see, either, so I didn’t even know that they were all there. It was pure luck.”
